Elizabeth Barrett was a poet who is best
remembered by her married name, Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

But her father had forbidden her to marry Robert Browning.

In fact, when she married Browning, he disowned her and never spoke to her again.
Still, each week for the rest of his life, she wrote him a letter from Italy where she and Robert had gone to live.

Not once did her father reply.

After his death she received in the mail a large box with each one of the unopened letters inside.

They are among the most beautiful letters to be found in classical English literature.
And perhaps, if her father had read her letters their relationship might have been repaired and restored.  Though that never happened, it did not keep his daughter from weekly expressing her love and forgiveness.

once I had a vision.

Well…as close to a vision as I imagine I will ever have…I saw a bearded man with tears dripping onto his seamless robe.

And I saw a parade of men walking by…a timeless parade for some of the dates I saw read BC and some read AD.  And there were thousands of these dates to accommodate the thousands of wars that had been fought.

The men… were dressed in all manner of uniforms…in all manner of designs…and some wore beards and some were clean shaven…and the colors of their skins were all the different shades God had created…but still they were all the same…people attempting to destroy other people. A very sad parade of human behavior.

And I thought of all the wars where it was not thousands against thousands, but only two; a husband and wife, a parent and child, two church members, an employer and an employee, two former friends now enemies.

And I thought how all wars, large, medium and small…eventually come to an end…and how sometimes unfortunately the hates continue…
but also how sometimes there is reconciliation.

The special miracle times when hands put down swords and turn them into plowshares…And a tiny piece of earthly geography takes on a heavenly tinge… because two or more human beings deciding to live tall and sun crowned above the crowd.

THE SPIRITUAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN
“A book superior in style and content)

A  Quote FROM Rev. Wyrick’s 9TH BOOK “THE SPIRITUAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN”

When ole Abe swore on the Bible to uphold the Constitution, the faith he brought with him helped him to honestly support the five references to God found in The Declaration of Independence: supreme Lawmaker, Creator, Source of certain unalienable rights, world’s supreme Judge, and Protector on whom we can rely.  It is not that an atheist or agnostic could not pay lip service to these, it is just that an obvious lack of enthusiasm would make its mark.

QUOTES FROM
SIXTY PLUS AND NOT HOLDING
(Serialization of One of Neil’s book that can be found on his other blog Wyrick’s Writings)

I almost drowned once. It is a terrifying experience. One gets very used to breathing. I had taught swimming in summer camp. Passed the Red Cross Life Saving course. Water-skied 50 miles an hour. Now I found I could not even stand to have the water flow over my face when I took a shower.

So I had two choices. Give in to my fear or fight it.

I fought it. Stuck my head in a few inches of water in a basin for five seconds, then ten and finally a minute. I kept working on my private demon until one day, six month later, I was behind a ski boat with ski rope in hand. I was filled with panic, not just fear. I skied anyway. I fell and did not drown. I began to overcome the anxiety.

I refused to have a love affair with fear that could have become a permanent downer. Did I completely conquer my fear? No. Was I better off than if I had given in? Definitely.

----- ------ ---------- A number of years ago two scientists conducted an experiment with a sheep. They tied a piece of wire around the leg of a normal sheep in the midst of other sheep. Then at regular intervals they would send an electric shock through the wire making the leg twitch. The sheep’s behavior remained normal. He ate well, slept well, acted quite nicely, twitching appendage and all. Then the scientists added another factor.

They began to ring a bell ten seconds before they administered the shock. Within a very short period of time the sheep began to demonstrate all the symptoms of severe anxiety neurosis. His eating habits went from bad to worse. He couldn't sleep. He took to avoiding the other sheep. He became highly nervous and agitated.

It is the same with all the people who every day promise themselves it is going to be a bad day, and then work very hard at making their prophecy come true.
