Dear Lord,

 

Let our conscience visit daily the courts of heaven.  Save us from having our ethics too often dictated to by lesser courts and certainly not by the courts of hell.  Our conscience is our soul’s companion, save it from being invaded and infected by prejudice and hate.  May it rather pulse with love.  May we have the special kind of health that comes from following our conscience rather than asking it to follow us.  It is such a gift to know what is right and to do it; may that describe an abundance of our deeds.  May we recognize an unjust law and be willing to speak out against it.  And may we be guilty of arousing the consciences of our community that more good may reign.  Help us to live in such a manner we know we could shout a deed we just performed before the ear of our conscience and it would not shrink.   Save us from doing wrong for no other reason than that society is in the midst of approving it.  Lord, let the flame of our conscience light our way and let us follow that light with joy.
