A number of years ago, Don Schollander, an Olympic gold medal winner in swimming discussed the dangers of fame.
After he had won the Olympic medal he began receiving an unbelievable number of calls to speak and be given Awards real, pseudo and otherwise.
He turned them down on a regular basis.
His
explanation was as follows, “If I had accepted all those invitations I
would no longer be able to have the time to work out, to hone my skills
and to continue to be a championship swimmer. Indeed I would grow fat,
flunk out of college and be an utter failure in what had brought me to
