One day a father, trying to inspire his son to a more careful application to his school work and his household chores, said to him, “Son, do you know what Abraham Lincoln was doing when he was your age?”

“No sir,” quickly replied the boy,” but I know what he was doing when he was your age.”

Sometimes we adults play a game called LET’S JUMP ON THE TEENAGERS and we give them a hard time and sometimes they need to be called to task…but meanwhile we need to set an example that is equal to our instructions to them.

Another little boy stood in front of his father and he held in his hand a bad report card.

 

“Dad,” he said, “what do you think is responsible for this, heredity or environment?”

 

Indeed, while we’re playing dog catcher and catching them at their misdemeanors we need to take a good look at our own kennels.

As a great grandfather and grandfather I have a whole new set of children watching me closely and monitoring my words and actions. I know it and I expect it and I pray not to forget the responsibility it sets before me. 

 

For what they see and hear they will NEVER FORGET.
