There was a sheep herder in Indiana who was in love with common sense, patience and a continuing search for understanding people. He had fine tuned these gifts in a way of life that should have earned him a prize.But he had a problem. He was losing both sheep and sleep.

 

The dogs of the neighborhood had declared unqualified war on his herd and almost every morning he would find one or more sheep maimed or dead.

 

Instead of countering with fences, bells, lawsuits or shot-guns he buried his anger, resurrected love, patience and common sense and began to give every neighbor’s child a pet lamb and ram.

Before long his neighbors had flocks and began to keep sharp watch on their family dogs.

The sheep raiser lost no more sheep and also lost no friends.
