William Gladstone was one of Great Britain’s greatest Prime Ministers.

He served his country for 62 years.

At eight-eight years of age he was asked by a younger man, “How do you remain so calm and think so clearly?”

Gladstone said, “For sixty-two years I have kept a prayer of David close in my mind, and this is it; ‘Oh, Lord, keep me as the apple of Thine eye. Hide me under the shadow of Thy wings.”

Gladstone went on to say, “Never in my life have I been too busy for God. And never in my life has God been too busy for me.”

It is all about how we see ourselves.

The psychologist says man is a man of complexes and reflexes. The psychiatrist describes man in terms of ids and egos. The biologist conceives of man as a respiratory and digestive apparatus. One wit has said, “Man…he’s an ingenious assembly of portable plumbing.”

But Jesus, and here’s that definition that has the spark of eternal creation in it, Jesus says man is a “child of God.”

James 4:7
”Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
