...walk on Mars? Save
a village in Africa? Be part of a
medical breakthrough?
Well, you can...it's called leading by example...replicating
yourself in another human being because of the example of courage you set, or
sacrifice or self-discipline.
The
world is watching you. Your next door
neighbor is watching you. Your family is
watching you...and you are a living multiplication table...multiplying the
good, the bad or the indifferent
A mother was taking her little boy to school,
since the dad had to go to work early. The little boy kept looking around on
the way to school. Halfway there, the little boy said, “Mom, where are the
idiots?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well,” said the little boy, “usually Dad and I see at least three or four idiots every day on our way to school.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well,” said the little boy, “usually Dad and I see at least three or four idiots every day on our way to school.”
Our children are watching and learning and copying.
And then there
is one of my favorite poems by one of my favorite poets. Edgar A. Guest
I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day;I'd rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way.
The eye's a better pupil and more willing than the ear,
Fine counsel is confusing, but example's always clear;
And the best of all the preachers are the men who live their creeds,
For to see good put in action is what everybody needs.
I soon can learn to do it if you'll let me see it
done;
I can watch your hands in action, but your tongue
too fast may run.And the lecture you deliver may be very wise and true,
But I'd rather get my lessons by observing what you do;
For I might misunderstand you and the high advise you give,
But there's no misunderstanding how you act and how you live.
When I see a deed of kindness, I am eager to be
kind.
When a weaker brother stumbles and a strong man
stays behindJust to see if he can help him, then the wish grows strong in me
To become as big and thoughtful as I know that friend to be.
And all travelers can witness that the best of guides today
Is not the one who tells them, but the one who shows the way.
One good man teaches many, men believe what they
behold;
One deed of kindness noticed is worth forty that
are told.Who stands with men of honor learns to hold his honor dear,
|
For right living speaks a language which to every
one is clear.
Though an able speaker charms me with his
eloquence, I say,I'd rather see a sermon than to hear one, any day.
Edgar
A. Guest
People are
watching and learning and copying. Our
lives are daily on display.
A question? Do you remember the
first time you learned you could take a mirror and use it to reflect a light in
any direction you wanted it to go. You
could shine a flashlight against it in a darkened room and it would light up
another darkened section of the room...a wondrous duplication
That is you
and me...a wondrous duplication when we are a light...a glow of god governed
goodness...and when we only add to the darkness...shame on us.
Yes, book of
Matthew, we have read you and oh that we would heed the words below more often.
"Neither do people light a lamp and put it
under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone
in the house". (Matthew 5:15)
It is easy to follow...to join a group organized to do good...but when
is the last time a group was readying to do bad and you walked away saying,
"I will not be a part of that."
Sometimes a negative action is a positive action...is it not?
"I'd
rather see a sermon than hear one any day." Duplicate.
Duplicate. Duplicate.
Years ago the communist government in
China commissioned an author to write a biography of Hudson Taylor with the
purpose of distorting the facts and presenting him in a bad light.
They wanted to discredit the name of this
dedicated missionary.
As the Chinese author did his research,
he was increasingly impressed by Taylor’s saintly character and godly life, and
he found it extremely difficult to carry out his assigned task with a clear
conscience.
Eventually, at the risk of losing his
life, he laid aside his pen, renounced his atheism, and received Jesus as his
personal Savior.
Her name was Harriet Tubman. She was a black in the time when few blacks
were free. She escaped slavery in 1849.
She could
neither read nor write. When she smiled
it was a smile that contained two missing top teeth. She lived alone. Her husband had left her.
Her only
source of income was working as a domestic in small hotels and sometimes by
cooking.
When she
was in her early thirties this woman with no future had found her calling. She came to be called Moses because of her
ability to go into a land of captivity and bringing out so many people from slaveries
bondage.
She worked
the Underground Railroad, a secret network of free blacks, white abolitionists
and Quakers that fled the tragedy of being treated like property rather than
human beings.
She made a
total of 19 trips and took great joy in the fact she never lost a single
passenger. It was dangerous work. When people in her charge wavered, she was
strong as steel.
How are your
investments doing these days? Oh, I
don't mean stocks or bonds. I mean
investments in faith building and spiritual self discipline. I mean do you walk enough to keep your legs
strong and pray enough to keep you strong for the temptations life offers along
its journey.
How are you investments these days? And those who are watching you and learning
from you...how are their investments these days.
He was just a little boy and he was full of mischief. So he changed the signs. And before it was noticed he ruined the day
for a lot of people. Those folk who
followed the signs that had been changed and ended up in...Tacoma when they
wanted to be in Seattle...or vica versa.
How many people
have you been sending down the right road or the wrong road?
Do you love
Jesus and the way of life He taught and for the forgiveness He gave from the
cross and for the promise of the resurrection?
Are you overwhelmed by the magnificence and magnitude that God sending
His son down to earth to die for you and me really is?
If you
are...overwhelmed...it will show and it will affect who you are and how you act
and where you lead...and double duplication will take place again and again and
again and again and again...

A new quote below from
Rev. Wyrick's 9th book THE SPIRITUAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN (read the rave reviews below the quote)
If
Mary had not instigated another of her famous feuds the assassination might never
have happened, at least at this time in this way.
She had raised the ire of the wife of
Ulysses S. Grant and so Julia Grant refused to attend the play at Ford Theater
in her company.
Had the General been present that evening,
there might have been more guards.
Instead, the Lincoln’s sat alone enjoying
“Our American Cousin,” until John Wilkes Booth put a bullet in his head.
It placed him in a coma and pushed the
nation further toward chaos.
The time was 10:15.
"Positive,
powerful utterances...skillfully enhancing our understanding and appreciation
of Lincoln while revealing the Divine source of his strength."
Lt.
Colonel C.A. Olsen (Ret.) Asbury College (Professor Ret.)
"The Spiritual Abraham Lincoln is
an extremely well written book that investigates what might be
termed the spiritual side of President Lincoln. It's both scholarly and very
readable. I came away impressed at Mr. Wyrick's portrayal of the President and
with an altered and enlarged vision of the man:'
William Hoffman, Award winning fiction writer; author of Blood and Guile, and
Wild Thorn
"Wyrick has authored a wonderful
examination of the spirituality of one of American history's most devoutly
religious leaders...a pleasant and readable book that has a rich depth of information."
Maynard Pittendreigh Presbyterian
minister
"When it comes to invoking religion in
support of any of their decisions, politicians need to sit at the feet of
Abraham Lincoln. Reinhold Niebuhr once called him 'America's greatest
theologian.' Why so great? Because he invariably distinguished between human
works and the works of the Almighty. As Wyrick says, 'He wore
the mantle of humility easily: because he was more impressed with what God was
doing in the world than with what he, president of the United States in the
midst of an awful crisis, was doing. That is why in his last major speech he
distinguished between both human causes in the Civil War and the Almighty's
'own purposes.' Lincoln would have agreed that it is better to leave God-talk out
of politics than to decorate human proposals with divinity. This is a book for
our American time. Through his careful study of Lincoln's career, Wyrick
compels us to remember that piety belongs in politics only when piety
transcends politics."
Dr.
Donald W. Shriver
Emeritus professor at Union Theological Seminary in New York.
Author of An Ethic for Enemies: Forgiveness in Politics
"V. Neil Wyrick's fine work allows the reader to appreciate Abraham
Lincoln's Christian commitment and his prophetic role in American history.
Should have a wide readership."
James
H. Smylie Professor
of Church History (Ret.) Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia
"Neil
Wyrick's The Spiritual Abraham Lincoln should be read by anyone attempting to understand the man who was probably
the most complex person to ever hold the office of president of the United
States. Dr. Wyrick is intent on demonstrating that the spirituality so often
expressed in Lincoln's writings and speeches was not merely lip service to a
Deity, but rather expressions of a profound faith in a real God. It was this
faith that provided the wisdom, compassion, insight and sometimes steel that
Lincoln would need in full measure as he led the United States through
the Civil War. Dr. Wyrick's clear and unpretentious style of presentation is
very much in keeping with the character ofhis subject, and in so doing, Wyrick
makes his point very well that Lincoln, his beliefs, and the faith that formed
them, are as relevant to a troubled America in 2004 as they were in 1863."
Daniel Allen Butler, author
of "Unsinkable"; The Full Story of the RMS Titanic, The
Lusitania and The Age o f Cunard

is no other organization in the world like the church. It is a breed unto itself. It is a congregation of sinners, not a

Well, first we must do more than just pray. We must believe in our own prayers.

Two stores faced each other across a very
busy street. Their owners were in constant competition
with each other. One day, the owner of
one store put out a sign that read – If
you want it, we have it!
Almost immediately the other owner put out a
sign –If we don’t have it, you don’t
need it!

WHO ARE
YOU?
NO…WHOSE ARE YOU?
Who are you? Whose are you?
You influence and are influenced
according to the answer you give.
Are you are the flavor of the month because
you are determined to be like everyone else no matter what? If so, consider being more independent in our
thinking and actions...because God wants you to grow up.
It may be easier being someone's shadow but
wouldn't you really rather be a sun.
QUOTE FROM THOUGHTS POSTED ON WYRICK'S WRITINGS ENTITLED "Who
Are You? Whose Are You?"
This is an old quote, and a romantic one
as well but, nevertheless, can anyone say of you, “I love you not because of who you are,
but because of who I am when I am with you.”

NO…WHOSE ARE YOU?
In a Peanuts
cartoon strip Peppermint Patty is shown talking to Charlie Brown.
“Guess what, Chuck? It’s the first day
of school and I got sent to the principal’s office.
And it’s your fault!”
Charlie Brown responds, “My fault? How
could it be my fault? Why do you say everything is my fault?”
To which she declares, “You’re my
friend, aren’t you, Chuck? You should have been a better influence on me.”
In the comics, it’s funny… but in real life it’s much more
