But still take some time out today to practice this
positive attitude and thereby allow it to warm your day and improve your mood.
Thanksgiving is a plus just as complaining
is a minus...and who wants to live in a world of minuses.
And while you are at it...start with
thanksgiving as number one on your list...
"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord
with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It
is He who made us, & we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His
pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving & His courts with praise; give
thanks to Him & praise His name. For the Lord is good & His love
endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations."
(100th Psalm)
And while you
are trying to come up with a list let me share part of a list I ran across that
is really quite creative (and humorous) and a good place to begin.
"For husbands who attack small repair jobs around the house
because they usually make them big enough to call in the professionals."
"For
teenagers because they give parents an opportunity to learn a second
language."
"For
Smoke alarms because they let you know when the turkey’s done."
The list does
not have to be world changing things...but yes...things you are grateful for
that have and continue to change your world.
The medical missionary who worked in an
area where people were born with healthy vision and then something in the area
caused them to go blind.
This missionary developed a treatment
that would cure this blindness and he saved thousands from this terrible
personal tragedy.
But not a one ever said "Thank
you."
They couldn't. They did not have a word in their language
that meant this.
So instead...afterwards...they would look
at him and say, "I will tell your name." And this they would do...everywhere they went
they would tell folk what he had done as they named his name.
In the spirit of the 100th Psalm...do this...again
and again and again...thank the Lord for the life that beats within you and
spreads before you...thank him for each breath you breathe and each smile that
lights up your face. Your reasons for
thanksgiving may be more or they may be less than those you know...but everyone
has something to be thankful for....something...plus something...plus
something...plus someone...
Ah now...things are what they are and how see them... as the
following story points out.
"Dear Mom:
Sorry I haven’t written sooner. My arm really has been broken. I broke it, and
my left leg, when I jumped from he second floor of my dormitory...when we had
the fire. We were lucky. A young service station attendant saw the blaze and
called the Fire Department. They were there in minutes. I was in the hospital
for a few days. Paul, the service station attendant, came to see me every day.
And because it was taking so long to get our dormitory liveable again, I moved
in with him. He has been so nice. I must admit that I am pregnant. Paul and I
plan to get married just as soon as he can get a divorce. I hope things are fine
at home. I’m doing fine, and will write more when I get the chance. Love,

It's at the
top of list of favorites...this poem that heaps my heart with gladness every
time I read it once again.
Suppose God
charged us for the rain.
Or put a price on a songbird's strain
Of music, the dawn, mist on the plain.
How much would autumn landscapes cost,
Or a window etched with a winter's frost,
And the rainbow's glory, so quickly lost?

a life of thanksgiving.
Can
you think of a better way to live your life?
If complaints weigh you down are not thanksgiving wings
to lift you up?
Do
you not honor God each time you utter a grateful word and even more so when you
pray a thankful prayer?
Would
you release yourself from being one who constantly complains that you deserve
more?
How
much anxiety is caused by a lack of thanksgiving? "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer
and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." (Philippians 4:6 6)
A Sunday School teacher asked her class what they were thankful for.
One little boy said, “My glasses.” When asked why he was thankful for his
glasses, he said, “Because they keep the boys from fighting me and the girls
from kissing me.”
Good fortune on
your search for things to be thankful for.
They surround you with their abundance.
All that is required that you let out all the stops as you search for
them...or look outside the box...or...
