Why do people
quit?
They fear failure. They had rather guarantee a "No!"
than take a chance on hearing a "No" later. Who said this is a good reason?

Solomon comments on the dilemma " "...an upright man, after falling
seven times, will get up again. (Proverbs 24:16)
When
opportunity smiles at you don't frown at it...
because the attempt is as important as the results.
To get in the habit of wasting
opportunities is to become a person who is a constant "life waster."
To never use
whatever talents
God has given you is to fly in the face of the advice of 1 Peter
4:10, " 1 Peter 4:10: “Each one should use whatever gift he has received
to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
Two men who crashed their private plane
on a South Pacific Island.
One of the men brushed himself off and proceeded to run all over the island to see if they had any chance of survival. When he returned, he rushed up to the other man and screamed, “This Island is uninhabited and there is no food or water. We’re going to die!”
The other man leaned back against the fuselage of the wrecked plane, folded his arms and responded, “No we’re not. I make over $100,000 a week.” The first man grabbed his friend and shook him. “Listen, we’re on a deserted island. We’re doomed!”
The other man, unruffled, again responded. “It’s OK, I make over $100,000 a week.” Mystified, the first man, taken aback with such an answer again repeated, “For the last time, I’m telling you that we are lost. It doesn’t matter how much money you make because there’s no one around to help us.” Still unfazed, the first man looked the other guy in the eye and said, “Don’t make me say this again. I make over $100,000 per week and I tithe 10%! My pastor will find us!”

One does need to be
realistic as the results of positive thinking but then the pessimistic approach
the first man might well mean that he would certainly die first.
His name was Antonio and when he tried out for the
Cremona Boy's choir his high squeaky voice guaranteed failure. He could have given up on music but he
didn't.
He did have one
talent. He could whittle. Oh, how he could whittle.
So he whittled and he whittled and he
whittled and when he grew older he apprenticed to an old violin maker.
His avocation became an vocation. His hobby became a craft. They had made fun of him when he failed to
make the choir...but in time no one made fun of his music making anymore.
His name was
Antonio Stradivarius.
Whatever your talent is...it is yours and yours alone and only you can use it and hone it and make it rise to meet the sun.

I do not ask
it but the book of Proverbs (6:9) “How
long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?”
I will not
mention who the talking head was that said it or how many years ago it
was said of a political candidate but it was a damming commentary and obviously
would made the candidate (to the extent it was true if it was true at all) not
worthy of the office he was seeking.
The commentary
was as follows, " “It was a campaign devoid of any poetry. It was a
campaign where sacrifice was never whispered. There was no mention of duty — of
what any of us owes to each other."
Duty calls
and our talents must rise to the fore or be wasted and left on the dung heap of
time.
It has been
repeated countless times..it needs to be repeated countless times more. "Ask not what your country can do for
you but rather ask what you can do for your country."
Whether it is for
so large an entity as country or no larger than a single friend...fulfill your
destiny by doing good in the face of possible failure...and speak up when you
may be put down each time you try...and live because you were not afraid to
die.
I say this to
myself and I say the same to you...for to seek the easy road of nothingness is
enough to fill heaven with a flood of tears...because
yet another human being could have done more...
and chose to do nothing.
