It was to be an afternoon of fun.

The lake lay broad and beautiful before them and the children’s laughter echoed in all directions. Suddenly, the sound was different.

It was a young child in distress.

He had gone out too far and his frightened cries from the deep water reached the gardener who was working nearby.

His hesitation was nil as he raced toward the water and dove toward the stricken youngster.

The little boy was saved. The family kept asking the gardener what they ever do to repay him.

He hesitated, but then said “I have always wanted my son to be able to go to college but I fear I will never be able to afford it. “Ah, but you will,” replied the father of the little boy, “We will pay his way.”

Years later, when Sir Winston had become Prime Minister, he became critically ill with pneumonia.
The King promptly called on the best physician in the land to minister to him.

And who was this grandest doctor soon standing by Churchill’s bed; Sir Alexander Flemming, the developer of penicillin and son of that gardener who long ago had saved a drowning young Winston.

Churchill often related the tale by saying, “Rarely has a man owed his life twice to the same person.”

All kind of opportunities present themselves in our lives to serve or save.

Sometimes they may threaten our life if we respond or simply be a time when we can give physical, mental or spiritual help without undue effort.

But whatever it is, this opportunity; we should pray for and train ourselves to give of our best whatever the challenge; whether it is the giving of inconvenient time or placing ourselves in danger.
True commitment to being ready to help our fellowman is a commitment we need to make often so that when the moment comes we will not hesitate.

Be it an easy thing to do or a difficult thing to we must remind ourselves…that if everything came easy…everyone would be great in their response.

A quote below from tomorrow’s ONE A DAY blog entitled VALENTINE’S DAY, HOW IT ALL GOT STARTED
“Ah yes, the practice of Valentines Day…a Christian holiday…why do I say that…because it teaches men to honor their wives…to show love which is a cornerstone of our Christian faith…over and over the word “love” appears…of neighbors…of enemies…love as one loves oneself…”
