HOW TO BETTER HANDLE A BROKEN HIP AND OTHER SUCH CRISIES

(This is longer than a normal One A Day but I hope you will stick with it and read it in it's entirety for I believe you may well find some helpful hints therein)

I have crashed a hang glider and thereby lived with a paralyzed arm for awhile.

I have had a kidney and tumor removed and by such accidents and other planned surgical events I know the pain caused by such events.

But each time I have met the problem with positicve thinking,a sense of humor and a sense of God.

And by so doing my heavenly Father has rewarded me with "the peace that passeth understanding."

Being human I have during these times experienced some anxiety but the great physician has quickly taken over and taken me to an emotional level I could never have achieved all by myself.

Each time one of these assaults have taken place on my body I have done the following.

I have reminded myself of the benefits that will come out of this.  It will sharpen my empathy curve.  So that when I visit a friend in the hospital I can truly better understnad and therefore more deeply care.

And buy a book on meditation.  It’ll help you to get more out of your Bible and put muscles on your prayers,

If your injury or surgery makes you bed ridden or less than mobile...with this extra tme besides random reading, pick out a subject you’ve always wanted to know more about and become a mini expert.  With Google there is no limit to how smart you can become on anything in a relative short period of time.

Pull out those pictures boxes filled with pictures that you have always planned on putting in order.  It’ll be fun and you can then look back on your time of pain as constructive as well as the initial destructive.

If you’re right-handed, teach yourself to write with your left hand.  It’s a talent that may come in handy some day.

Have a yard sale.  Great way to meet new people and get you out of the house and perk up your income.

Handwrite some thank you notes to those who did something nice for you years ago.  Yes, I’m not talking about all the people who have been caring during your present crisis.  Just catch up on all past missed opportunities.

Look up Bible verses on the Internet.  Some have beautiful pictures and music to go along with them.

When you fall and break your hip it is instantaneous.  I did not play the “why me?” game.  I have always been a proponent of the “Why not?” attitude.

Almost immediately I started working on a high math score, “I started counting my blessings.”  I realize that many of you readers will shake your head and think “Really?”  Well, think it all you will.  When a pain or problem is about to overwhelm you such positive thinking is worth its weight in gold.  And if you can’t say it and immediately mean it “Say it anyway.”  In short order, if you keep repeating it, you will have lived long enough to start attracting a good sized list.

Some people get angry at themselves.  “How could I have been so stupid?  Why didn’t I look where I was going?”  I had the same thought and then reminded myself that to avoid accidents I would have had to be perfect.  I gave that up a long time ago because if I achieved this impossibility it would make people nervous.
