HUMILITY, THY NAME IS WISDOM

The following is a story as old as the hills but then again you may not have wandered in the right direction to have heard it before. At any rate, after the tale I have added a new twist which I hope will tweak your thinking processes.

An old farmer bought a woe-be-gone piece of property covered with weeds and brush and huge stones. He immediately named it “Disaster” and promptly went to work so that it could earn a name change.

It was hard work but the transformation was amazing; the new fence, the unclogged overgrown little crick, the stones used to build a small wall across the front of his house and the crops standing tall and ready for the harvest.

One day his neighbor visited him and commented, “The Lord and you have certainly done wonders with this place.”

“You should have seen it when the Lord had it all by himself.”

And had I been standing there with the two of them I might have added my own comments to the dialogue…

Something like…”Perhaps you might consider how you wouldn’t be alive to do anything if the Lord hadn’t chosen to give you life…and then there is the matter of how the days are broken up with just the proper amount of darkness and day.

Think on it…what if days were 160 hours long and the nights 80 hours long.

The days would burn your crops to crisp and the nights would put them in deep freeze. Because that is what would happen if the earth rotated on an axis 100 miles an hour instead of 1000.

Were the moon 200,000miles closer there wouldn’t be a harvest moon for the crops. Indeed, there wouldn’t be any crops.

The tides would twice a day submerge every continent we know.

To be impatient with God is the ultimate fooldom because the person who has achieved this poor choice of thought and action will one day be forced to give a defense of such fooldom.

Or as the self made man needs to learn and remember… your candle loses nothing of its own brightness by lightning God’s candle as well.

Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility. --(Saint Augustine )

And then I might start to quote…
Matthew 5:5 - "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."

QUOTE FROM TOMORROW’S BLOG entitled GOOD EXAMPLES ARE GOOD

“Twain replied, “An interesting descriptive phrase but then I’ve always noticed that few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of a good example.”
