The man’s wife had just awakened him in the middle of the night.
“There’s a burglar downstairs.” She had done this many times and so rather than argue that her overactive imagination was hard at work; he sleepily stumbled out of the bed and down the stairs…flashlight in hand.
Except that this time there really was a burglar.
“Just be quiet and you won’t get hurt,” growled the in house thief.
“Oh, don’t worry,” replied the husband, “I won’t make a sound but I sure do wish you would go upstairs and introduce yourself to my wife. She’s been expecting you every night for twenty years."
The great French philosopher Montages used to say, “My life has been filled with great misfortunes…most of which never happened.”
Fear is a fence that blocks out so much opportunity of living out there and over there.
A muting of opportunity. An eraser of challenge. Substituting dullness in place of positive change.
And if we feed our fears they will show up at our dinner table of life on a regular basis.
Indeed the following quote which I have always loved, “A cat bitten once by a snake dreads even rope” Should find a place upfront in everyone’s way of thinking.
