It is a concept I have heard many times and perhaps you also have been blessed by this way of thinking. If is not a new thought but it still bears repeating and sharing with some friends.

When Jesus spoke on the Mount that sermon that stirs our souls He promised His Disciples three things…

that they would be entirely fearless,

that they would be absurdly happy

and that they would get into trouble.

The did get into trouble and found to their surprise that they were not afraid.

They were filled with a heavenly courage and contentment,

laughed at their own troubles

and cried over the troubles of other people.

Their sense of otherness was a gift beyond compare.

They learned what others have learned and some the hard way and some never at all.

The lesson is embodied in the following story.

An influential man was being interviewed by a reporter.

“What does it feel like to be such a successful self-made man?”

“Oh,” replied the man, “I suppose it has some advantages but if I had it to do again, I think I would ask God for some help.”

That great preacher Phillip Brooks once spoke from his pulpit the following, “Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger persons. Do not pray for task equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your task. Then the doing of your work shall not be a miracle. But you will be a miracle.”

Romans 12:2 ()
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
