Can you be better than you are? Can you be worse? Of course. You can be either. One thing is for sure, you will not stay what you are this blessed day. There is absolutely no doubt you will move forward or backwards. You will not stay the same. And God is looking, not at what you are, but at what He knows you can truly be.

In short, reach a point where you can say, “I slept and dreamed that life was beauty. I woke and found that life was duty.”
There were certain people to whom Jesus gave special approval.

The Syrophoenician woman who gave up all her pride. Mary of Bethany who gave all her heart. Peter who gave all his life. The widow who gave all her goods. Sacrificing people. Extra mile people.

Carl Sandberg once described a very unusual man. He wrote, “Not often in the story of mankind does a man arrive on earth who is both steel and velvet, who is hard as rock and soft as drifting fog, (but) in the mixed shame and blame of the immense wrongs of two crashing civilizations, often with nothing to say, he said nothing, slept not at all, and on occasions he was seen to weep in a way that made weeping appropriate, decent, majestic.”

His name, of course, was Abraham Lincoln. And one day, like all men, his hands lay still. But before this time, they had fashioned (the thoughts) with malice toward none, with charity for all.

They followed, these hands, the dictates of their master’s soul. They took Christ’s commandments not as suggestions, but as affirmations to be achieved. Ah, yes…
I’d rather see a sermon than hear one any day,
I’d rather one should walk with me
than merely show the way.
The eye’s a better pupil
and more willing than the ear,
Fine counsel is confusing,
but examples always clear.

A quote below from tomorrow’s ONE A DAY blog entitled HANDS (5th in Series)

“A long time ago He lived, your Christ and mine. What were His hands like? The Bible does not give answers to such a question, but let your imagination give you some answers. The hands of Christ? Certainly they were not those of a bully, administering a beating to someone weak and defenseless. The hands of a thief? Not our giving, forgiving, loving Jesus. The hands of a…”
