"That I am not alone in this Universe and that a loving God cares about me and that He sent His Son to earth to prove it."

Having said that, how best can I combine common sense, Biblical teachings and the power of prayer to make a positive life?

One thing I have always sought to do in the living of my days was to be concerned but not overwhelmed by my concerns.

When taking tests in college my concern caused me to study.  That way I passed.  Too much concern and my brain might have become panic locked and if not failure certainly a lessening of my grades would have insued.

And I always prayed a positive prayer which put me in a positive mood of believing in myself...believing I was going to do well...and I know I did better than if I had gone feeling I was not going to do well at all.

Psychologist back this up.  The following test has been given more than once and the results are always the same.

Three men are asked to squeeze a "dynamotor" ...in this case by a British psychiatrist J. A.  Hadfield   Their average grip 101 pounds.

Then the three men were hypnotized and told they were weak.  Average grip 29 pounds.

Then told under hypnosis that they were strong.  Average grip 142.

What do you tell yourself about yourself each new day as you prepare to go out and face the world?

Someone has said "Sow a thought and reap an action, sow an action and reap a habit, sow a habit and reap a character, sow a character and reap an eternal destiny."

Or as that old proverb reads: "For want of a nail a shoe was lost, for want of a shoe a horse was lost, for want of a horse a man was lost, for want of a man a company was lost, for want of a company a battle was lost, for want of a battle a kingdom was lost."

"As a man thinketh in his heart so is he." (Proverbs 23:7)

Would you sail on the open sea of life setting your sails to get the most of the winds that blow?  If so, then you will be blessed just by the beginning of such a quest.  For too many store their sails... always waiting for a better day to sail...and the sails grow moldy and worthless.

The timid and the tired are seldom rewarded.

Think on the fact that we would never have had telephones if the cry of many "that it was little more than a toy" had been listened to.

And what of the founding of our great nation and the fight to win against mighty Britain.  The odds were against achievement in either of these two challenges.  But the dreamers won out.  And the impossible became possible.  And positive thinking rode high on the wings of  a rainbow.

I am not suggesting that following what I am talking about will guarantee a miracle a day.  But I am saying that it will promote more smiles than frowns, more completions than excuses, more of life's best rather than keying in on life's worst.

I guess what I am saying is "enroll in the college of reality" but walk its halls with Jesus by your side and a positive thought echoing after each footstep.

Count your blessings as often as you bemoan their lack.  Know that standing in the sunshine produces shadows but don't just concentrate on the shadows.

Make not light of that so short space between your ears.  It is a battleground and devilish thoughts battle the angels around you for its control.

Certainly after the devil has whispered in your year...don't turn up the volume.  Rather turn it down...rather tune it out.

I heard of a term the other day I had never heard before.  It is what some taxi cab drivers call some of the bad drivers they encounter who almost cause an accident and then shout at them as if they were to blame.

The term is "garbage truck" and it refer to those poor folk who are filled with the garbage of a host of garbage thoughts.

Their ongoing rage has to be dumped somewhere so they dump it on taxi cab drivers and on you and me as well.

The beggars cup was constantly being filled by almost everyne who passed him by.  His sign read, "It's May and I'm blind."

You have no blessings?  What do you see that is beautiful but you are in such a hurry you do not see its beauty.

And that voice you hear.  It is the voice of a loved one.  Do you say "thank you" each time you hear it.

And that voice you use to communicate with.  What if you could not speak?

Time may have stolen one or more of the above from you...but what is left?

There is always something left and for most of us so many somethings for which we can shout thanksgivings.

A new quote below from Rev. Wyrick's 9th book THE SPIRITUAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN (read the rave reviews below the quote)

If Lincoln had not died he would have given the South back its pride as soon as possible.  Some may refuse to accept the Lincoln his words portrayed.

Others may find it difficult to see so much of a Pollyanna-future, had his life been spared.

Yet, even the most negative should be willing to admit that more charity and less malice could have begun to save some of the day.

This leader had so often spoken as much like a

philosopher/theologian as a politician.

Not haranguing the South for its foolishness or suggesting punishment, but rather advocating too much forgiveness that never sat well with what was still a divided house.

The death of many of his dreams followed his death.

Hatred of the South was an easier sell.

"Positive, powerful utterances...skillfully enhancing our understanding and appreciation of Lincoln while revealing the Divine source of his strength."

Lt. Colonel C.A. Olsen (Ret.) Asbury College (Professor Ret.)

"The Spiritual Abraham Lincoln is an extremely well written book that investigates what might be termed the spiritual side of President Lincoln. It's both scholarly and very readable. I came away impressed at Mr. Wyrick's portrayal of the President and with an altered and enlarged vision of the man:'

William Hoffman, Award winning fiction writer; author of Blood and Guile, and Wild Thorn

"Wyrick has authored a wonderful examination of the spirituality of one of American history's most devoutly religious leaders...a pleasant and readable book that has a rich depth of information."

              Maynard Pittendreigh Presbyterian minister

"When it comes to invoking religion in support of any of their decisions, politicians need to sit at the feet of Abraham Lincoln. Reinhold Niebuhr once called him 'America's greatest theologian.' Why so great? Because he invariably distinguished between human works and the works of the Almighty. As Wyrick says, 'He wore the mantle of humility easily: because he was more impressed with what God was doing in the world than with what he, president of the United States in the midst of an awful crisis, was doing. That is why in his last major speech he distinguished between both human causes in the Civil War and the Almighty's 'own purposes.' Lincoln would have agreed that it is better to leave God-talk out of politics than to decorate human proposals with divinity. This is a book for our American time. Through his careful study of Lincoln's career, Wyrick compels us to remember that piety belongs in politics only when piety transcends politics."

       Dr. Donald W. Shriver

Emeritus professor at Union Theological Seminary in New York. Author of An Ethic for Enemies: Forgiveness in Politics

"V. Neil Wyrick's fine work allows the reader to appreciate Abraham Lincoln's Christian commitment and his prophetic role in American history. Should have a wide readership."

James H. Smylie Professor of Church History (Ret.) Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia

"Neil Wyrick's The Spiritual Abraham Lincoln should be read by anyone attempting to understand the man who was probably the most complex person to ever hold the office of president of the United States. Dr. Wyrick is intent on demonstrating that the spirituality so often expressed in Lincoln's writings and speeches was not merely lip service to a Deity, but rather expressions of a profound faith in a real God. It was this faith that provided the wisdom, compassion, insight and sometimes steel that Lincoln would need in full measure as he led the United States through the Civil War. Dr. Wyrick's clear and unpretentious style of presentation is very much in keeping with the character ofhis subject, and in so doing, Wyrick makes his point very well that Lincoln, his beliefs, and the faith that formed them, are as relevant to a troubled America in 2004 as they were in 1863."

Daniel Allen Butler, author of "Unsinkable"; The Full Story of the RMS Titanic, The Lusitania and The Age o f Cunard

How can we keep our faith from being a weak and fruitless thing?  How can we not be foolish little men and women groveling in the dark shadows of overeager egos.

Well, first we must do more than just pray.  We must believe in our own prayers.

How many things have you been anxious about that were things which you knew before you got into them were probably going to create some problems for you?  And if you asked your doctor, or your minister, or common sense and your God, all of them would have said, “Don’t do that.”

A QUOTE FROM THOUGHTS POSTED ON MY OTHER BLOG WYRICK'S WRITINGS ENTITLED

Two stores faced each other across a very busy street.  Their owners were in constant competition with each other.  One day, the owner of one store put out a sign that read – If you want it, we have it!

Almost immediately the other owner put out a sign –If we don’t have it, you don’t need it!

A QUOTE FROM THOUGHTS POSTED ON MY OTHER BLOG WYRICK'S WRITINGS ENTITLED

WHO ARE YOU?

NO…WHOSE ARE YOU?

Who are you?  Whose are you?

You influence and are influenced according to the answer you give.

Are you are the flavor of the month because you are determined to be like everyone else no matter what?  If so, consider being more independent in our thinking and actions...because God wants you to grow up.

It may be easier being someone's shadow but wouldn't you really rather be a sun.

QUOTE FROM THOUGHTS  POSTED ON WYRICK'S WRITINGS ENTITLED "Who Are You?  Whose Are You?"

This is an old quote, and a romantic one as well but, nevertheless, can anyone say of you, “I love you not because of who you are, but because of who I am when I am with you.

QUOTE FROM THOUGHT PIECE POSTED ON WYRICK'S WRITINGS ENTITLED

" WHEN A NATION STRAYS TOO FAR FROM BEING MORAL IT IS WELL ON IT'S WAY TO BECOMING A MESS

        James 4:17

To him therefore who knows to do good, and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.

Someone once said: “A belief is what you hold, a conviction is what holds you!”

So what holds you, constructs you, leads you with a push when needed?

Quotes POSTED ON WYRICK'S WRITING ENTITLED WHO ARE YOU?

NO…WHOSE ARE YOU?

In a Peanuts cartoon strip Peppermint Patty is shown talking to Charlie Brown.

“Guess what, Chuck? It’s the first day of school and I got sent to the principal’s office.

And it’s your fault!”

Charlie Brown responds, “My fault? How could it be my fault? Why do you say everything is my fault?”

To which she declares, “You’re my friend, aren’t you, Chuck? You should have been a better influence on me.”

In the comics, it’s funny… but in real life it’s much more complicated.
