Doing
good makes you feel good. Doing bad
makes you feel bad. If it is the other
way around you have a problem.
In other words, the Christian way
of living makes for a better world and a better life. Whereas... evil with its collection of greed
and hatred and want of power at any cost and sin for sin's sake just doesn't
really make sense.
It is not enough
to do just "do no harm." That
is certainly better than doing evil but it is also like buying a packet of
seeds and not planting them.
Do good. Positive action. Walking the walk rather than just talking the
talk.
A
hairdresser who fixes the hair free for poor girls each year for an upcoming
prom.
A retiree
and his wife who are this weekend flying to New York at their own expense to
help some people get their houses back in order.
A group of women who don't just sit at home and fix their own lunch but three times a week go to church to fix a lunch for folk who are hungry.

A group of
peopleon an icy nights meeting older members in the church parking lot and with a
gentle touch on their arm giving them greater assurance that they will not
fall.
Ephesians 5:15-16 puts it well “Be
very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most
of every opportunity, because the days are evil."
May I ask
you a question? Have you ever been busy
at doing good and then grown weary of it?
That first Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon you visited in the
nursing home or took food and love to sick members or...but it got to be a
drag...and you couldn't maintain your enthusiasm.
Getting weary at the repetition
of one good deed? Then switch to
another. There is nothing wrong with
pursuing variety. Just don't give up
entirely.
Galatians 6:9 says, "Let us not grow weary in
well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart."
How often have you said
"Well, I just did my good deed for the day." I hope often...and better still..."Well,
there goes my second and third good deed."
And think what it would be like if you did so many you lost track.
Are you
always or sometimes finding fault with other people who aren't doing as much
good as you think they should? Get your
own house in order and then consider to spruce it toward perfecting your own
performance...thus by example you will make your statement rather than by
condemnation (vocal or internally).

and yes your teacher and mine is Christ.
It's that simple....and like so many things because of temptations force
it is that complex.
I'm
talking about a lifestyle...which we all definitely have...for good or bad or
Mr. In-between.
There is a movie called "Pay
It Forward." Maybe you have seen
it. It concerns a young boy named Trevor
who is given an assignment by his teacher to come up with an idea that will
change the world.
His idea
is to not do a pay back when someone does something nice to him but to pay it
forward to someone else who is then asked to do good deeds for three other
people. The domino effect of all these
good deeds branching out and tripleing would soon overwhelm the world with goodness.
Which isn't that bad an idea is
it? Your doing the same thing...not in a
movie...but in the reality of your own life.
