When I was a little boy...when it would began to snow I would rush from window to window to watch its effect on our small piece of landscape.

There was so much potential in this tiny piece of intricately designed almost nothingness. It's diameter was less than one-hundred millionth of an inch.

But...it's beauty when multiplied over and over again... unbelievable.  And recently I got to thinking...that is you and me...the two of us...and then hopefully the more of the Christians of us...spreading out across the world practicing the beauty of our faith...a blizzard of Christian love...

BLIZZARDS BRING THINGS TO A STOP...AH YES...BE A PART OF A CHRISTIAN BLIZZARD OF LOVE THAT AT LEAST SLOWS ALL THE HATES DOWN.

What a possibility of unbelievable beauty.

       "Love thy neighbor as thyself."

The joy of love and brotherhood...the sad tragedy of prejudice and an over productive pride.

Unity vs. disunity.  Is there any doubt which you would prefer?

Does not hate produce loneliness as it sets us apart one from the other?

Some people are afraid of high places?  Everyone should be afraid of putting themselves on too high a pedestal.

A very ingenious teenager, weary of reading bedtime stories to his little sister, decided to record several of her favorite stories on tape. He told her, "now you can hear your stories anytime you want. Isn't that great?"

She looked at the machine for a moment and then replied, "No. It hasn't got a lap."

I guess what I am saying is...we need to get off our high horse sometimes and provide a lap to the world...a place where folk can find the comfort of unconditional love...a beautiful place that meets the test of caring...a place whose purpose it is to eradicate all kind of division between God's children.

       What is love?

It is silence--when your words would hurt.

It is patience--when your neighbor's curt.

It is deafness--when a scandal flows.

It is thoughtfulness--for other's woes.

It is promptness--when stern duty calls.

It is courage--when misfortune falls.

(Author unknown)

You speak of love...you listen to it from the pulpit...you shake your head in agreement...but how often do you deliver it?  And to whom...and when...and how often...and with what tags attatched...and...

And again...to whatever degree...how often do you deliver love.

She lived in  a tiny village in Bedfordshire, England.

One day she posted a positive responsive postcard to her sweetheart who lived in Clifton, just 15 miles away.

In it she said she was responding to his love.

That postcard written, in 1910, was delivered in 1969, fifty-nine years later! The poor sweetheart never knew of the loving response. He died in 1929. It was a case of an undelivered message of love.

Again...to whatever degree...how often do you deliver love.

And John 15:12-13, with no words allowing excuses speaking on the matter says, " My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you."

1 John 3:18 "Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions."

Love ...may it cover the land...may it erase hate wherever it finds it...may it be Slow to Suspect -- Quick to Trust ...Slow to Condemn -- Quick to Justify... Slow to Offend -- Quick to Defend...Slow to Expose -- Quick to Shield ...Slow to Belittle -- Quick to Appreciate ...Slow to Demand -- Quick to Donate ...Slow to Hinder -- Quick to Help

You know what...when one gets the message of love found in our Bible...really gets it...it becomes an automatic....whenever and however it is needed it goes into action.

It doesn't call a committee meeting to discuss whether the time is right...it doesn't demand a resolution with a proper number of inner votes to improve a compassionate act...true Christian love goes into action immediately when a need is seen...and the joy of the world increases beyond belief each time that tiny miracle takes place...IT REALLY DOES.

It's a journey with a road map I am speaking of...clear and concise.  This journey called love.

       1. Love one another – John 13:34 -35; Romans 13:8;1Peter 1:22; 1 John 3:11; 1

John 3:23; 1 John 4:7; 1 John 4:11; 1 John 4:12; 2 John 1:5

2. Be devoted to one another - Romans 12:10

3. Honor one another – Romans 12:10

4. Live in harmony with one another - Romans 12:16

5. Accept one another – Romans 15:7

6. Instruct one another - Romans 15:14

7. Greet one another – Romans 16:16; 1 Cor 16:20; 2 Cor 13:12;1 Peter 5:14;

8. Agree with one another – 1 Cor 1:10

9. Serve one another - Galatians 5:13

10. Bear with one another – Ephesians 4:2; Col 3:13

11. Be kind and compassionate to one another - Eph 4:32

12. Submit to one another –Eph 5:21

13. Forgive one another – Col 3:13

14. Teach and admonish one another – Col 3:16

15. Encourage one another – 1 Thess 5:11; Hebrews 3:13; Hebrews 10:25

16. Spur one another on to good love and deeds – Hebrews 10:24

17. Do not slander on another – James 4:11

18. Live in harmony with one another – 1 Peter 3:8

19. Offer hospitality to one another – 1 Peter 4:9

20. Be humble to one another – 1 Peter 5:5

And do you see that little boy again...running from window to window watching the snow fall deepen...and the little boy grown....still looking out the window and praying that love, flake by flake turns into a blizzard that will cover the land...and let us live together in peace and unity.

Or as Robert Browning wrote, "Take away love and our earth is a tomb."

QUOTES ON LOVE

Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own. ~Robert Heinlein

Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity. ~Henry Van Dyke

A new quote below from Rev. Wyrick's 9th book THE SPIRITUAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN (read the rave reviews below the quote)

If Lincoln had not died he would have given the South back its pride as soon as possible.  Some may refuse to accept the Lincoln his words portrayed.

Others may find it difficult to see so much of a Pollyanna-future, had his life been spared.

Yet, even the most negative should be willing to admit that more charity and less malice could have begun to save some of the day.

This leader had so often spoken as much like a

philosopher/theologian as a politician.

Not haranguing the South for its foolishness or suggesting punishment, but rather advocating too much forgiveness that never sat well with what was still a divided house.

The death of many of his dreams followed his death.

Hatred of the South was an easier sell.

"Positive, powerful utterances...skillfully enhancing our understanding and appreciation of Lincoln while revealing the Divine source of his strength."

Lt. Colonel C.A. Olsen (Ret.) Asbury College (Professor Ret.)

"The Spiritual Abraham Lincoln is an extremely well written book that investigates what might be termed the spiritual side of President Lincoln. It's both scholarly and very readable. I came away impressed at Mr. Wyrick's portrayal of the President and with an altered and enlarged vision of the man:'

William Hoffman, Award winning fiction writer; author of Blood and Guile, and Wild Thorn

"Wyrick has authored a wonderful examination of the spirituality of one of American history's most devoutly religious leaders...a pleasant and readable book that has a rich depth of information."

              Maynard Pittendreigh Presbyterian minister

"When it comes to invoking religion in support of any of their decisions, politicians need to sit at the feet of Abraham Lincoln. Reinhold Niebuhr once called him 'America's greatest theologian.' Why so great? Because he invariably distinguished between human works and the works of the Almighty. As Wyrick says, 'He wore the mantle of humility easily: because he was more impressed with what God was doing in the world than with what he, president of the United States in the midst of an awful crisis, was doing. That is why in his last major speech he distinguished between both human causes in the Civil War and the Almighty's 'own purposes.' Lincoln would have agreed that it is better to leave God-talk out of politics than to decorate human proposals with divinity. This is a book for our American time. Through his careful study of Lincoln's career, Wyrick compels us to remember that piety belongs in politics only when piety transcends politics."

       Dr. Donald W. Shriver

Emeritus professor at Union Theological Seminary in New York. Author of An Ethic for Enemies: Forgiveness in Politics

"V. Neil Wyrick's fine work allows the reader to appreciate Abraham Lincoln's Christian commitment and his prophetic role in American history. Should have a wide readership."

James H. Smylie Professor of Church History (Ret.) Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia

"Neil Wyrick's The Spiritual Abraham Lincoln should be read by anyone attempting to understand the man who was probably the most complex person to ever hold the office of president of the United States. Dr. Wyrick is intent on demonstrating that the spirituality so often expressed in Lincoln's writings and speeches was not merely lip service to a Deity, but rather expressions of a profound faith in a real God. It was this faith that provided the wisdom, compassion, insight and sometimes steel that Lincoln would need in full measure as he led the United States through the Civil War. Dr. Wyrick's clear and unpretentious style of presentation is very much in keeping with the character ofhis subject, and in so doing, Wyrick makes his point very well that Lincoln, his beliefs, and the faith that formed them, are as relevant to a troubled America in 2004 as they were in 1863."

Daniel Allen Butler, author of "Unsinkable"; The Full Story of the RMS Titanic, The Lusitania and The Age o f Cunard

How can we keep our faith from being a weak and fruitless thing?  How can we not be foolish little men and women groveling in the dark shadows of overeager egos.

Well, first we must do more than just pray.  We must believe in our own prayers.

A QUOTE FROM THOUGHTS POSTED ON MY OTHER BLOG WYRICK'S WRITINGS ENTITLED

Two stores faced each other across a very busy street.  Their owners were in constant competition with each other.  One day, the owner of one store put out a sign that read – If you want it, we have it!

Almost immediately the other owner put out a sign –If we don’t have it, you don’t need it!

A QUOTE FROM THOUGHTS POSTED ON MY OTHER BLOG WYRICK'S WRITINGS ENTITLED

WHO ARE YOU?

NO…WHOSE ARE YOU?

Who are you?  Whose are you?

You influence and are influenced according to the answer you give.

Are you are the flavor of the month because you are determined to be like everyone else no matter what?  If so, consider being more independent in our thinking and actions...because God wants you to grow up.

It may be easier being someone's shadow but wouldn't you really rather be a sun.

QUOTE FROM THOUGHTS  POSTED ON WYRICK'S WRITINGS ENTITLED "Who Are You?  Whose Are You?"

This is an old quote, and a romantic one as well but, nevertheless, can anyone say of you, “I love you not because of who you are, but because of who I am when I am with you.

QUOTE FROM THOUGHT PIECE POSTED ON WYRICK'S WRITINGS ENTITLED

" WHEN A NATION STRAYS TOO FAR FROM BEING MORAL IT IS WELL ON IT'S WAY TO BECOMING A MESS

        James 4:17

To him therefore who knows to do good, and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.

Someone once said: “A belief is what you hold, a conviction is what holds you!”

So what holds you, constructs you, leads you with a push when needed?

Quotes POSTED ON WYRICK'S WRITING ENTITLED WHO ARE YOU?

NO…WHOSE ARE YOU?

In a Peanuts cartoon strip Peppermint Patty is shown talking to Charlie Brown.

“Guess what, Chuck? It’s the first day of school and I got sent to the principal’s office.

And it’s your fault!”

Charlie Brown responds, “My fault? How could it be my fault? Why do you say everything is my fault?”

To which she declares, “You’re my friend, aren’t you, Chuck? You should have been a better influence on me.”

In the comics, it’s funny… but in real life it’s much more complicated.
