It is worth $5, $50 or $ 5000. The difference is that the first is nothing
more than a slab of iron. The second is
that same slab shaped to make a horseshoe.
The third, shaped with great care and effort and having become the
balance spring in a fine Swiss watch is worth $500,000.
Which means that your worth in the eyes of God does not vary, for
you are precious in His sight, but your worth to the world in which you live is
directly proportion to how you shape your talents and your mind and your hunger
for the living Lord.
I chose the following quote from the pen of to prod your
thinking on this matter. "the problem for
many men is not so much that they are failing. Rather, the problem is that they
are achieving their goals, but they are the wrong goals. Failure means to
succeed in a way that doesn't really matter." (Patrick Morley)
In short,
what are your goals in life and would you want to argue for them before the
throne of grace?
I am talking, of
course, about achieving a successful life.
Not in the way some would use the word.
Not in fame or power or wealth though none of these in themselves are
bad (just how they are used and how they are gotten) but in being a successful
human whose strength of spirit absorbs God's power like a sponge
And what is
that, , "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Galatians 5:22
And in seeking these...it is important to
remember...that here on earth they are a constant searching rather than a completed
destination. A fine tuning ...a
continuous shaping and reshaping.

Be all that
you can be...that sums it up and aims us toward how.
What's
first. You have to decide "you want"
to be your best. Some don't necessarily
want to be their worst or best...
and if that is your attitude...there is a problem.
Otherwise. unless you believe that you have done all that
you can do and become all that you can become...your future is a sea of
opportunity.
Someone has
written that life is like a dollar bill "You can spend it on anything you
want but you can spend it only once.
We both for a long time now have been on a spending spree...and we are surrounded
by all the things we have bought and bought into.
And some of the receipts we carry around
in our hearts and minds we know full well we should have passed the purchases
by...and others we glory in a decision as a decision with a wealth of wisdom in
it.
"... seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his
righteousness..." how could anyone do otherwise?
But how...the answer is in the
details..."Seek" in this context means "actively pursue"
(as against passive acceptance)
One thing most folk learn if they are to be a success in the art of living
is the discipline of self discipline...of doing what one knows ought to be done
even when one doesn't want to.
Of exercising instead of over
eating. Of studying for an exam in place
of going to a basketball game. Of
praying that extra prayer because it needs to be prayed even though sleepiness has to wait for awhile.
And on and on it goes...this
discipline habit...until it becomes ingrained...and is no longer just a habit
but a lifestyle.
Make room! There's a thought in two powerful words. Make room.
Life can get cluttered with wrong habit and wrong deeds and wrong
thoughts and wrong decisions and wrong follow throughs...until there is little
room for "right." And we all
know enough of what is right...to "actively pursue."
So may I make a suggestion...look at a
list of your "doings" and "thinkings" and drop something
you know is wrong. Get rid of it. Kick it so far away you'd have to run a marathon
to even get close to it again.
Otherwise as it reads in Psalm
"All (y)our busy rushing ends in nothing."
Work on your attention span...when it comes to the spiritual an attention
deficit span isn't good. I need say no
more.
