"What
am I suppose to do with my life?"
How often have you asked that question or one very much like it.
It's a good question to ask...it's a better question to find answers
to...otherwise one can end up like a dog running around in circles chasing
their own tail.
So where to begin? Ask
yourself who do you want to be wanted by?
Where do you seek meaningful relationships? And on your friendship list have you written,
"What a friend I have in Jesus."
God wants you. Have you
reached that point where you really want Him?
IN YOUR LIFE...MORNING, NOON AND NIGHT...as against every now and then.
Do you want yourself? That's a question that eventually has to be
asked. Looking in the mirror every
morning you are faced with what you did yesterday and what you are going to do today. Good, bad or indifferent and if your answers
are fuzzy then you have a undirected fuzzy life...and a fuzzy purpose...and we
both know that is no place to begin, live or end your existence.
In this whole question business we keep growing and for most of us
the questions we ask are better today than they were yesterday. We do learn...slowly...but we do learn from
our experiences.
On a good many yesterdays ago we asked "Where do babies
come from?" Then we grew older and
one day we ask the ultimate question, "Why did this baby called me come to
be in the first place?"
To be number one? In
what? As an author, mechanic, teacher,
best salesman of the month, best husband, best wife, best ?.
NUMBER ONE HUMAN BEING?
We already are number one in the eyes of God...after all when He
sent His son to die on a cross for us that really did send a message.
"Thy will be done."
Have you prayed that prayer? If
you have then you have got the ultimate answer.
You are a destiny in the eyes of God to fulfill the destiny of God and
when you pray "Thy will be done" you give up being in competition
with God's will. Now that's a monumental
truth.
Are you having any problem wrapping your mind around this
thought. Add Proverbs 16:4 to
the mix. "The Lord has made
everything for His own purpose."
A spiritual corporation with God as your chief CEO.
A Master plan of where you love God so much you do as you
please and do right more often because you love God so much.
Are you a success? I
mean, do you have enough money to put food on your table and a roof over your
head and enough health to go to work each or stay home and do whatever work
home requires? Then you are happy? Right?
And if you have even more than this...your are happier? Right?
Wrong. If that is
all you have. Because there is a
hungering and thirsting for God inside of you and if that is not fed the
emptiness cries out and leaves you feeling...just that...EMPTY.
Purpose. It always
comes back to that.
16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.( Colossians 1:16)
And that means you and that means me...and that is the supreme
purpose for our being.
There is an
old story about a man by the name of John Griffith, who lived in Oklahoma in the
year 1929.
He
had lost all he had in the stock market crash.
He moved to Mississippi where he took a
job as bridge operator for a railroad trestle.
In
1937 he was involved in a horrible accident. One day his 8 year-old son, Greg,
spent the day with his Dad at work. The boy poked around the office and asked
dozens of questions - just like little boys do.
The bridge was over a river and when-ever
a ship came John had to open the bridge to allow the ships to pass. The day the
boy was there with his father a ship was coming so John opened up the draw
bridge.
After a moment or two he realized his son
wasn’t in the office and as he looked around, to his horror, John saw his son
climbing around on the gears of the draw bridge.
He hurried outside to rescue his son but
just then he heard a fast approaching passenger train, the Memphis Express,
filled with 400 people.
He yelled to his son, but the noise of
the now clearing ship and the oncoming train made it impossible for the boy to
hear him. All of a sudden John Griffith realized his horrible dilemma. If he
took the time to rescue his son the train would crash killing all aboard, but
if he closed the bridge, the boy we be crushed in the gears. John would
sacrifice his son.
He
made the horrible decision, pulled the lever and closed the bridge. It is said,
as the train went by John could see the faces of the passengers, some reading,
some even waving, all of them oblivious to the sacrifice that had just been
made for them.
Have you made a decision to try to be the
best person you can possibly be...to do the right thing...no matter what the
cost?
And then something like the above comes
along...and your sense of purpose is tested...really tested.
It isn't easy. These moral choices...seldom carrying such a
burden of a decision.
So we aren't prepared when something
monumental has to be decided.
We are prone to concentrate on lesser
things.
We all are prone to think about our new
TV or new car or paying those bills or how to get little Johnny or Jane to
behave...but still...we owe it to ourselves to chase after a dream more and
more until it becomes more and more a reality.
That's what it's all about. "Be prepared" as I learned when a
boy scout.
Reading that Bible on a regular basis, praying those prayers,
re-committing, doing all the things we know because anything less is to turn
around and head toward spiritual failure.
And
the older one gets the more one realizes this is not a good place to be.
With a passage of time we all have had moments when a decision
really did change our lives and the lives of others.
There was a rookie lumberjack who
started out determined to chop down more trees than anyone else. He made it his
goal to beat his company’s average tree count of fifteen trees a day.
On his very first day, he felled ten trees. He said to himself, "That’s pretty good for my first day." But on the second day, he chopped down ten again. No progress at all. Then on the third day, he managed only seven! Now he was puzzled, but not discouraged yet. He simply doubled his efforts the next day. Imagine to his surprise when he finished with only five trees down!
Every day it got worse - no matter how hard or often he swung the ax, when each day ended, he had felled fewer trees than the day before. After two weeks of discouragement, the young man approached a grizzled old veteran. "I don’t understand what’s going on. I work hard every day, swinging my ax from dawn to dusk, but I keep doing worse and worse. What can I be doing wrong?"
"Young fella," the old man replied after a long pause, "I can see them callouses on your hands and bigger muscles in your arms, to prove you been swingin’ your ax. But let me ask you somethin’ - When was the last time you sharpened your ax?"

Time...what are you constantly saying you don't have the time
for? And each time you say these
words...is it true? Actually don't have
the time...or don't chose to have the time.
Don't have the time to sharpen your ax.
Don't have the time to exercise?
Don't have the time to study whatever it
is that would benefit you if you studied it but you claim "I don't have
the time."
Or "I don't have the
time to...."
How often do you use that phrase?
The Satisfaction of excuses?
Do they really give satisfaction?
