Our
emotions express our great love for our Savior.
Our emotions get us in trouble.
They need to be controlled or they will control us.
We cannot do it alone...or certainly anywhere near as well as we can with the help of our caring Lord.
These days I can focus all I want to but without the help of my
glasses things just aren't as clear.
Same with our emotions...without the proper focus we see things all out
of proportions and blurry and unclear and we respond to things out of focus
with out of focus actions.
So yes...we need focused thinking. And
yes a regular visit with my heavenly optometrist/ophthalmologist, my Father
God, with a prayer for better focused thinking...I truly believe delivers just
that...better focused thinking.
A
group of motion-picture engineers classified the following as the ten most
dramatic sounds on a movie screen:
a baby's first cry;
the blast of a siren;
the thunder
of breakers on rocks;
the roar of a forest fire;
a foghorn;
the slow drip of
water;
the galloping of horses;
the sound of a distant train whistle;
the howl
of a dog;
the wedding march.
And one of these sounds causes more emotional
response and upheaval than any other, has the power to bring forth almost every
human emotion: sadness, envy, regret, sorrow, tears, as well as supreme joy.
It
is the wedding march.
Do we have control over our thoughts and
thereby control over what we do? God says we do. And we know we
do. But without help from God
to head us in the
right direction we let them lead us in the wrong direction...and when
that happens...we all know what would happen if we had a map that said
Richmond, Va. when in reality it was Seattle, Washington.
No... we cannot help it when evil birds
fly over our heads but that does not mean we have to allow them to make a nest
in our hair. And then send out signals to other evil birds to prey upon anything near the landing strip they have taken over.
Isaiah 55:7
Let

forsake his way,
Let him return to the Lord,

He will have mercy on him;

For He will abundantly pardon.
There it is. Wht to gain and glean and what to throw away.
Name the thoughts we want to rule us...and then if they are the wrong thoughts...try to get out of the way for they will destroy us.

In 1948, Betz and Thomas classified 45 Johns Hopkins medical
students in three personality groups on the basis of psychological tests and
questionnaires.
The students were listed either as "alphas," described as cautious, reserved, quiet and undemanding; "betas," spontaneous, active and outgoing; or "gammas," moody, emotional and either over- or under-demanding.
Thirty years later, Betz and Thomas looked at the health records of the former students.
They found that 77.3 percent of the gamma group suffered from major disorders, including cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease and emotional disturbances.
The incidence of disorders was only 25 percent in the alpha group and 26.7 percent in the betas.
The doctors repeated the study on another group of 127 male students from the classes of 1949 through 1964 with similar results.
"Too often, gamma people get lost in their own emotions," says Betz. "While a person's temperament cannot be changed, more support from outside sources--such as more human contacts--might help lessen a gamma's risk of disease."

How to control your emotions? (1 Peter 1:13)
"Therefore gird up the loins of
your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to
be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; ..."
And you can do it, with the Lord visualized and in
actuality by your side....you can do it...some have bad thoughts more than
others...but all have an everlasting all powerful God who will not leave you
lonely and alone ....when and if you consistently call out for His aid.
What do I mean by that?
I mean be a motor mouth when it comes to asking for God's help. You are most likely a motor mouth in other
things.
Control...begins
everywhere.
During his term as
President of the U.S., Lyndon Johnson was somewhat overweight. One day his wife
challenged him with this blunt assertion: “You can’t run the country if you
can’t run yourself.” Respecting Mrs. Johnson’s wise observation, the President lost
23 pounds.
Are you running yourself? Or is the weaker self running you?
Are you running yourself? Or is the weaker self running you?
Are you aware that your emotions
too easily get out of hand? Then face
the fact. Don't paint the problem with
invisible ink. Don't go into denial. Your emotions are a pain to you and those
around you? Admit it. It is the beinning of doing something about it.
It's
called advance planning before no planning really puts you in real trouble.
How
good were you the first time you tried to ride a bike? When you fell did you give up or did you keep
on riding and falling and riding and falling and riding and falling and...until you found success.
The
same with working...really working on your emotions...you have to keep on
trying and failing and trying and failing and trying and failing and trying and
failing ad infinitum. ...until you find success.
And
you
will improve...and you can contain and active more control...and like
riding a bike there will
be some trails that are nigh unto impossible to conquer...but keep on
trying
and succeeding and trying and succeeding and trying and succeeding
and...and like failure feeds off of failure so does success feed off of
success.
(Proverbs 25:28) He that hath no rule over his
own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. I doubt anyone wants this description to be a
fit description of them. We like to be
in control...we savor self control...only a fool wants to be out of control.
Ever used the excuse. "I can't help it. That's the way I am."
To a degree.
Yes. To a degree. No.
And if you check your degree level with your Lord by your side...you may
come out of this examination with a different point of view.
The Bible says, "I can do all things through Christ
who strengthens me." And the lives
of those who have proved it are a true echo of the truth of these words over and over
again
(Proverbs 11:29) "He that troubleth his
own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of
heart." Doesn't sound like a very
good recommendation for being out of control.
Return good for
evil. To retaliate is certainly not to
meditate on things more worthy of our time...and the results can only be out of
whack emotions in control again.
(Romans 12:17-21)
Recompense to no man evil for evil.
In
short, you and I are every day miracles looking for a place to happen. We are God's and He is our God and when we
build on that relationship miracles become commonplace.
Believe it. Accept it.
Apply it. This marvelous truth
that echoes across time and space and the Universe. Embrace it in prayer and persistent committed
action.
Thereby...make the world better for the all of us.
