We've
all shed tears and even most men have had moments when they sobbed...and the
grief of the moment weighed a 1000 pounds.
And when that happens...when someone is lost by death
or divorce..it is hard to find someone who will listen to
the one who grieves...and that sometimes is the greatest grief of all.
It
is not that people do not care...it is that they don't like to talk about
death.
They
don't know what to say.
Unfortunately,
most folk don't know that at such times it is not required you talk words of
wisdom...but rather than you listen with ears of compassion.
Would
you find some comfort in the fact of a loved one passed away? Just be sure you emphasize the word
"loved one" and that you had them...nor ever forget the tremendous
blessing in that eternal truth.
"Let
go and let God." It is a cliché
because there is so great a truth in it.
"When you get to the end of your rope then tie
a knot in it and hang on." and that knot is God.
Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy
laden, and I will give you rest."
Believe it. Accept it. Revel in it.
Whatever
the ongoing causes of a grief, a debilitating sickness, the loss of a child or
parent a dream shattered at your feet...what can you do?
Well,
first it helps to recognize what is happening.
First
there is shock. This immediate
overwhelming result of a tragedy creates a kind of emotional numbness. Many continue to hope that they will soon
wake up from a terrible dream.
Then comes the moment when there is no emotional or mental
doubt that the reality is real and that it isn't going to go away. Now depression even deep dpression may
occur. Certainly profound loneliness.
This too will ease...usually in six months or a bit longer.
The pain will be muted.
The scar remain.
Now comes anger and a
feeling of being abandoned...as if the death were the fault of the person who
died. It is irrational but it
happens. Often...there is even anger
toward God...there is enough anger for anyone or anything that comes to mind.
It is not a time of rational thinking.
Then as a kind of
bodily mental emotional form of escape..apathy comes to call...and then without
reason the assumption of more guilt than is deserved (none of us is perfect).
Finally...recovery for most everyone does
come full circle...and life goes on...and the person is not forgotten...but the
adjustment takes place.
It is good to
have this list in front (do a print out) of you when these times occur...

God's word in front of you.
It is good to have God
and prayer around you.
