There are over 1100
stories and commentaries on this blog. It is added to
daily.
Some people are shy. When a conversation is taking place around them they can't think of anything to say.
Others are motor mouths who talk too much
from having married the dictionary but not made friends with restraint.
Some love people. Some don't.
And this is all of us and any of
us...because we all have had times when the cat had our tongue and we really
couldn't think of anything to say.
And we were in a crowd of strangers and weren't comfortable at
all. We were tired or out of sorts.
And people are not always loveable...and
none of us are always loveable. And when
that happens we need to remember that when a person gives friendship the least
he needs it the most.
So welcome aboard the human race.
But what to do...to help ourselves when
we find ourselves in these predicaments and in the process help those around
us.
Well, first pray to have a definite interest in other people's lives
"Love thy neighbor as thyself" is the way Jesus put it."
It will show and people will what they
feel when they are with you...and it will make them like you more.
Make them feel important are better about themselves. "Your hair looks great" "I
love your car" "Your prayer moved me." etc. etc. Compliments are golden and shine...people
appreciate them...you may leave them speechless because people don't compliment
very often...which is an even better to be a person who gives them.
We twitter and we face book and no longer
have front porches which we have traded in for isolated air conditioned dens.
It is little wonder we have to work at
being more friendly. Some have forgotten
how.
An African pastor was asked how he felt about Americans. He paused and commented, "Well, they are
very individualistic. Even their worship
songs are filled "me" and "I".
Is your church a warm and friendly
church? It depends on how many warm and
friendly people greet and meet each other and strangers as well each Sunday
morning.
"The reason I like Casper the friendly ghost is because he’s always your friend,
"said the little ten-year-old "He never hurts anybody. He doesn’t
scare you And he never really gets mad. He’s the best friend anybody could ever
have."
IN case you wonder how long Casper has
been around and sharing his friendly ways...try 72 years.
How often do you smile?
Before a word is spoken this sends a message. So does a blank look.
Have some questions ready to ask. About their family, their business, a hobby
you know they are on fire for, etc.
People who ask questions and listen to the answers get the reputation of
being a good conversationalist. They
really do.
When you do talk be positive.
Carrying around negative thoughts that you always share gets you that
reputation.
Laugh at other people's jokes. Even if
you never get it or get an hour later, it is an act of appreciation and it is a
friendly act. Do it.
Pray to have patience with people.
If everyone rubs you the wrong way and you haven't prayed and worked at
changing this attitude...you will gain the reputation of being
unfriendly...people will feel it...you will communicate it.
You can't think of anything to say. Have you ever heard of body language. Cross your arms in front of you and it does
send a signal. Lean forward and it sends
the message you are interested.
Smile. It will make you the
smiler happier and the object of your smile happier. Just like a frown will do the reverse.
Make eye contact. If people are always seeing the top of your
head and never your eyes...it makes its impact.
Chase after common sense and when you catch it...never let it go...apply
it to the wonder of hour friendships.
Nor forget that "Friendly" is just love with a big smile on its
face. So be a practitioner of that which
makes the world a better place for all concerned.

Everything
that happened in the war was not of blood and pain and hate. The best in man sometimes rises out of the
worst. More than likely the story of
what happened one cold day during the terrible battle of Fredericksburg reached
Abe’s ears and pleased the heart of this forgiving President. It was a dreadful battle that cried out for
some miraculous act of empathy.
A
Sergeant Richard Kirkland of Company E Carolina Regiment made a request of his
commanding officer that was almost denied.
He had looked too long at the tortured, twisted dead and dying men and
could finally stand it no more. He
sought startling permission to take water and aid to those dressed in both Blue
and Gray.
“You
may get a bullet in the back of your head, son,” he was told. The soldier replied that he wanted to go
anyway.
“May God protect you,” said Major General J.
B. Kershaw. A short time later, men on
both sides of this field of agony and despair, watched in awe as the young man vaulted
over a bloodstained stonewall and walked unarmed and seemingly unafraid among
the dead and dying. They saw him kneel
down and cradle a fallen Union soldier in his arms, offer him a drink of water,
rest his head on his knapsack and cover him with his own overcoat. And then move to another soldier nearby. This time it was a Confederate soldier.
Again
and again throughout that long, pale December afternoon, just eleven days
before Christmas, Sergeant Kirkland returned with water until every living
soldier, from both the North and the South, had felt his compassion and
concern.
General Kershaw later wrote that not one
shot was fired during that time. That
never had he heard such silent respect.
“…no doubt,” his pen etched, “all the trumpets of heaven resounded on
this monumental day.”
