Tim Hansel in his book "When I Relax
I feel Guilty," gives the following insights on what many people want from
God.
"I would like to buy $3.00 worth of God, please. Not enough to explode my soul or disturb my sleep, but just enough to equal a cup of warm milk or a snooze in the sunshine.
I don't want enough of Him to make me
love a black man or pick beets with a migrant. I want ecstasy, not
transformation; I want the warmth of the womb, not a new birth. I want a pound
of the Eternal in a paper sack. I would like to buy $3.00 worth of God,
please."
Do you want God's
will even though it may kill you?
Kill who you
have been all your life by changing you to such a degree your friends will have
trouble recognizing you and you will have trouble recognizing yourself?
I believe the term is "Born Again."
Yes...we are talking about Christian
discipline and Christian patience to be specific...and a Christian compassion that
has you visiting people in hospitals even though you don't like hospitals...and
being scrupulously 100% honest and (you feel in the blanks)

If the truth
be known. Most of us would like God to make life easier
and us more worthy of such a gift.
We want what
we want and don't want to have to put up with what we don't want.
Pain and pleasure? Pleasure
wins out any day...if we are honest about it.
So maybe the
question should be...what should we want and how often do we get it
right...this praying for and wishing for the will of God
The will of
God...ah...we are getting close...no...better still we have arrived at the
truth.
Proverbs 3:5-6
points us in the right direction for moving forward without so much wobbly
walking. " Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

What are your
talents? That's right...not just what do
you want to do but what are you capable of doing?
You would not pray to be in the Olympics if the last time you ran
anywhere was twenty years ago. You would
not apply to be a race track driver if you always hugged the right lane at 55
miles an hour. You would not try out for the lead in an opera if you were tone
deaf.
Maybe your prayer to live according to God's
Will should be "Lord, within the limits of my abilities guide me to do my
best and be my best."
When in doubt...wait. When you
have prayed and you still are wondering as what you should do...don't do
anything a little longer while still praying a little longer...haste doesn't
just make haste...sometimes it makes catastrophe.
A check list of Biblical to do's
certainly isn't a bad idea when it comes to taking God's will program...
but back to the
need for an abundance of prayer...it's called "Get to know the source
better and better by talking to Him more and more."
I guess what I am saying is that doing God's will means never quitting
or skipping his class, God's will 101 in a
way of seaking...daily...hourly...minute by minute really.
Life is a series
of seasons...a moving forward...a learning process...two steps forward and one
step back...hitting the bulls eye and then missing the target...accepting
forgiveness for a sin and then committing it again...perfection unrealized and
unrealistic...but still we must continue to pray "Thy will be done."...and
God is pleased at our efforts and hears our prayers and blesses our souls.
