GREED AND NEED

Ralph Waldo Emerson put it this way, “It is pitiful the things by which we are rich…a matter of coins, coats and carpets, a little more or less, stone, wood or paint; the fashion of a cloak or hat; like the luck of the naked Indians, of whom one is proud of the possession of a glass bead or a red feather, and the rest miserable in the want of it.”

And we keep things in attics that we will never use again or need again or want again. Why? The question is easier to ask than to answer.

And I watched a sunrise and a sunset yesterday and it was free and it was glorious and what if we had to pay for it? Would we enjoy it more or less?

And it is such a thin line as to what we possess and what possesses us.

And yes…these words from Luke.
