HIS NAME WAS GOD.  HIS NAME WAS MAN.

The dirt of a dingy manger scene combined with the majesty of a deity, and the wail of a newborn pierced the air.  The Son of God not delivered to earth’s doorway in some heavenly chariot but rather, like you and I, from a mother’s womb.  The Son of man and Son of God all bound up in one miraculous, magnificent moment.  It is all there, smelly shepherds and a Savior looking upon each other and heavenly angels lighting up the sky and singing their holy message toward the center of our souls.

YO!

Remember the politician Adlai Stevenson, the man, half a century ago, who ran for president with a hole in the bottom of his shoe?

If you are old enough you remember the picture of him sitting there on the platform, legs crossed and a rather large hole in his shoe sole.

What a way to be remembered.

But there is also something else he remembered for which you may not recall.

Adlai once coined a word “yo.” He said it could mean “yes” or “no,” whichever you wanted it to mean.

Well, it is the perfect word for some people. Ask them what they really want or really don’t want, and if they are honest, they will answer “Yo” because they don’t really know.

Commitment. Some are. Too many are not and lukewarm and listless they slog through life on fire for nothing. What a sadness.

So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
