Romans 5:3-4 "... suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." and that is not only Biblical but with proper prayerful attitude quite true.

Romans 5:3-4 "... suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." and that is not only Biblical but with proper prayerful attitude quite true.
From
personal experience I do attest that this is fact quite firm.
Because in my daily living I did not
chose my illnesses and accidents and other kinds of testing of my character that
have come my way. But I am the stronger
better person because of them...of this I am quite sure. (And mine have
been quite severe and would compare with others quite well)
The Prophet
Isaiah put it this way, "The chastisement of our peace makes us
whole."
"No pain. No gain." It's a phrase heard more often at athletic
events than from the pulpit...but the message is clear enough.
The British church leader Galvin Reid
tells about meeting a young man who had fallen down some stairs at the age of
one and had shattered his back.
He had been in and out of hospitals the
whole of his whole life — and yet he continued to make made astounding comment
that he thought God wss fair.
Reid asked him, “How old are you?”
Reid asked him, “How old are you?”
The boy answered, “Seventeen.”
“How many years have you spent in hospitals?” The boy replied, “Thirteen years.”
“And you think that is fair?”
“How many years have you spent in hospitals?” The boy replied, “Thirteen years.”
“And you think that is fair?”
The boy responded: “Well, God has all
eternity to make it up to me.”
And this is what Christians
believe. That time on earth is just a
hiccup against a backdrop of eternity.
And that of this loving God it rightly can be said “No eye has seen, no
ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love
him.” (1st Corinthians 2:9)
From some bad events folk turn
better...but yes...some others turn bitter.
Mothers
Against Drunken Driving came out of a mothers own personal tragedy.
Others would have simply sat and moaned
their life away.
Are you broken by some around you who
cannot will not understand you?
So was Jesus.
Are you rejected
on a regular basis?
So was Jesus.
"If you
are going through hell, keep on going."
(Winston Churchill)
Giving up is really not an option. Don't waste the pain. Persevere and learn from the experience. Pray and push. Pray and push. Pray and push.
Will screaming at
the top of your lungs help?
In Korea there is a seminar called the
Coffin Academy. It begins with folk showing up to write
goodbye letters to their families.
Then they climb into coffins, place their
hands across their chest and lie there as the tops of the coffins are nailed
down.
They remain like this for 10 minutes.
Then the coffins are opened and they
climb back out.
The theory behind
these seminars is that having experienced a make believe death they will have
new insights into life.
It is an extreme attempt to teach what we
as Christians already know...that life is a gift and important... and that
it is to be experienced and learned from and given over to God... to such a
degree we will never be tempted to climb in and out of coffins...as a way to
appreciate it.
There is such a
strengthening when one has lived with pain and survived. The personal experience of a broken hip, a
destroyed left arm in a hang gliding accident and the removal of a right kidney
qualify me to make this statement.
Am I calling
suffering a blessing? Yes, I think in a
way I am. Not to be sought but the
benefits mighty and enduring.
Endure by the force and healing power of
the Holy Spirit and proclaim it to be true...and when and if you do...your
witness will have infinitely more power than if you did so from a position of
health.
God works in
mysterious ways. His will is
wisdom. It is as simple as that. It is as complicated as that.

A
new quote below from Rev. Wyrick's 9th
book THE SPIRITUAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN (read the rave reviews below the quote)
Was Lincoln,
before he died, overly proud that he had so much to do with the preserving of
the Union?
It
is more likely that he quoted once again words of one of his favorite poets,
William Knox, “Oh, why should the spirit of mortal be proud?”
As he walked the streets of Richmond, Virginia
in an unannounced visit after that city had fallen to the North, it was said
that he was the man of the people among the people.
When
an elderly Negro had run toward him shouting praise, Lincoln lifted his hat and bowed, and wiped
away a tear or two.

"Positive,
powerful utterances...skillfully enhancing our understanding and appreciation
of Lincoln
while revealing the Divine source of his strength."
Lt.
Colonel C.A. Olsen (Ret.) Asbury
College (Professor Ret.)
"The Spiritual Abraham Lincoln is
an extremely well written book that investigates what might be termed
the spiritual side of President Lincoln. It's both scholarly and very readable.
I came away impressed at Mr. Wyrick's portrayal of the President and with an
altered and enlarged vision of the man:'
William Hoffman, Award winning fiction writer; author of Blood and Guile, and
Wild Thorn
"Wyrick has authored a wonderful
examination of the spirituality of one of American history's most devoutly
religious leaders...a pleasant and readable book that has a rich depth of
information."
Maynard Pittendreigh Presbyterian
minister
"When it comes to invoking religion in
support of any of their decisions, politicians need to sit at the feet of
Abraham Lincoln. Reinhold Niebuhr once called him 'America's greatest theologian.' Why
so great? Because he invariably distinguished between human works and the works
of the Almighty. As Wyrick says, 'He wore the mantle of humility
easily: because he was more impressed with what God was doing in the world than
with what he, president of the United States in the midst of an awful crisis,
was doing. That is why in his last major speech he distinguished between both
human causes in the Civil War and the Almighty's 'own purposes.' Lincoln would have agreed
that it is better to leave God-talk out of politics than to decorate human
proposals with divinity. This is a book for our American time. Through his
careful study of Lincoln's
career, Wyrick compels us to remember that piety belongs in politics only when
piety transcends politics."
Dr.
Donald W. Shriver
Emeritus professor at Union Theological Seminary in New York. Author of An
Ethic for Enemies: Forgiveness in Politics
"V. Neil Wyrick's fine work allows the reader to appreciate Abraham
Lincoln's Christian commitment and his prophetic role in American history.
Should have a wide readership."
James
H. Smylie Professor
of Church History (Ret.) Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia
"Neil
Wyrick's The Spiritual Abraham Lincoln should be read by anyone attempting to understand the man who was probably
the most complex person to ever hold the office of president of the United States.
Dr. Wyrick is intent on demonstrating that the spirituality so often expressed
in Lincoln's
writings and speeches was not merely lip service to a Deity, but rather
expressions of a profound faith in a real God. It was this faith that provided
the wisdom, compassion, insight and sometimes steel that Lincoln would need in full measure as he led the United States through the Civil
War. Dr. Wyrick's clear and unpretentious style of presentation is very much in
keeping with the character ofhis subject, and in so doing, Wyrick makes his
point very well that Lincoln,
his beliefs, and the faith that formed them, are as relevant to a troubled America in 2004
as they were in 1863."

of "Unsinkable"; The Full Story of the RMS Titanic, The Lusitania and The
Age o f Cunard
