Marshall, well known author of decades ago...and wife of that great and
blessed preacher Peter Marshall wrote in one of her books...
"My friend Marge had an experience aboard a plane bound for Cleveland, waiting for takeoff. As she settled into her seat, Marge noticed a strange phenomenon. On one side of the airplane a sunset suffused the entire sky with glorious color. But out of the window next to her seat, all Marge could see was a sky dark and threatening, with no sign of the sunset.
"As the plane’s engines began to roar, a gentle Voice spoke within her. 'You have noticed the windows,' He murmured beneath the roar and thrust of the takeoff. 'Your life, too, will contain some happy, beautiful times, but also some dark shadows. Here’s a lesson I want to teach you to save you much heartache and allow you to abide in Me with continual peace and joy.
"'You see, it doesn’t matter which window you look through; this plane is still going to Cleveland. So it is in your life. You have a choice. You can dwell on the gloomy picture. Or you can focus on the bright things and leave the dark, ominous situations to Me. I alone can handle them anyway.
"'And the final destination is not influenced by what you see or feel along the way. Learn this, act on it and you will be released, able to experience the peace that passes understanding.'"
The philosopher Rubiat Omar Kyiam wrote...
The moving hand writes and having writ moves on, nor all your piety or wit shall lure it back to cancel half a line. Nor all your tears wash out a word of it."
When
a deed is done or an opportunity is past or an opportunity is no more
we cannot like a director of a movie cry out, "Let's take that scene
over again."
But...
We can learn from past mistakes and let these times of error be stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks.
In short...we can begin to improve on our faltering steps by remembering the lesson below...
"Time
is too slow for those who Wait...too swift for those who Fear...Too
long for those who grieve...Too short for those who Rejoice...but for
those who Love...Time is eternity.
So would you be more often victorious than a victim...then seek wisdom moments and give them spiritual muscle...
First,
improve your living space...I am not talking about where you insert a
key to walk into your earthly home but a spiritual key you use to unlock
the door to your heart...and on a regular basis, by prayer, have Christ
as a regular resident.
Secondly,
work at healing the wounds that infect your entire system...from pride
that shrivels any opportunities for healing to a hunger for
righteousness that not fed leads to malnutrition.
Nor is it an easy journey from words to practiced deeds. "Every time I think about exercise, physical or spiritual, I lie down and rest until the thought goes away."
And third not in line of importance but rather as a way of numbering...
Have a daily walk and talk with God. Think of prayer as a spiritual Ipad or cell phone. Pray
short prayers like a "tweet" and maybe sometimes prayers long enough to
be a short novel...but do it...send out your thoughts...pepper the
Universe with the call of another of God's children who has not gone
spiritually mute.
Read the Bible. Read it and apply its teachings. It will reveal... like an X-ray or M.R.I. reveals physical malfunctions... spiritual malfunctions. For changes that are needed but not revealed will not be changed.
Daniel Webster once wrote: “One may live as a conqueror, a king or a magistrate, but he must die a man.
And therein lies the background of any such discussion as all of that above. We
are God's...his creation...his children...those who thought enough
about to send his Son to die upon a cross for us...and this truth
deserves the most of the best that we can give in return.
