Once upon a time there was a man who was very stubborn and his stubbornness was as extreme a case as has ever existed upon earth.
He would admit to nothing unless he wanted to. There were days when he would walk time after time into the wall where there was no door simply because he would not admit there was no door there. It seemed within the realm of his own personal reason that a door Was needed and so he persisted.
He frequently loss quite a lot of blood when injured because he would not admit that he was susceptible to such inconveniences of mortal susceptibility.
One day he refused to admit that a car was traveling toward him at a rather high rate of speed and therefore refused to move. The subsequent collision broke almost every bone in his body.
Being carried limply on a stretcher to the ambulance and sped to the hospital he would not admit that this was happening to him. Finally
when lying on his hospital bed he admitted to himself he was dying, he
also admitted to himself that it was a little late.
It has been the same with human history. Time and time again man has been slow to admit the need of God and his commandments until it when it was too late.
And
pride carried a torch and a gun and realms of destruction took place
because peace required more love and patience then both parties could
find or practice.
And
all wars were not just between nations for one person would prefer
battle with a neighbor than patient love toward a neighbor...and
refusing to accept the best as a possible response hate and prejudice
and all the resulting pain was accomplished...and everyone wept.
And time and time again...man looks out upon destruction and sees what could have been...but it is too late.
It is not that people did not...do not...know better...it is rather than stubbornness is so strong and patience is so weak.
And men and women hear the question, "Would you like to be good?"
And if they are honest they well say, "Well, yes, good for nothing."
If I can drift with the tide and still be good...then yes."
"If I can play with fire and not be burned...then yes."
Someone once wrote "Won't somebody give me some advice...on how to be naughty ...and still be niece."
And so the scorched earth policy continues alive and well.
