In an old clapboard church set besides a gentle flowing stream. In
a mighty cathedral with its organ crashing crescendo surging with a
thousand member congregation singing as one...or wherever you placed
your first steps of faith...you have sung this hymn.
"When
peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows
roll; Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is
well with my soul.
Though
Satan should buffet, tho' trials should come, Let this blest assurance
control, That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His
own blood for my soul.
My' sin-Oh, the bliss of this glorious thought-my sin--not in part but the whole, Is nailed to His cross and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, oh my soul.
And
Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight, The clouds be roll'd
back as a scroll, The truth shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, , Even so...it is well with my soul.
And singing it more than once...perhaps you have heard the story of Lord Baden-Powell and his tomb stone...

if you have not...on the tomb stone of this Chief Scout of the World a
circle was placed with a dot in the center...which is the scout sign for
"I have gone home.."
You cannot very well go home if there is no home to go to.
The
message of Easter is an always and because of this eternal Truth though
the calendar says we celebrated this monumental event last Sunday...my
soul warms to the idea that we can celebrate it again today... and in
all the time changing tomorrows yet to come...and that against the
backdrop of timeless eternity the fact of the resurrection shines
forth... with all the positive shining light such a truth deserves.
And...
There lives not a man who can fly in the air and dig in the ground at the same time.
There lives not a man who can be awake and asleep all at the same time (though some give an adequate imitation quite often).
The same is true of death.
You must either believe that when you die
your ending is final,
or...that you are lost to the ages...
that what was...you...shall never be again.
Once a man was feebly grasping the last threads of life here on earth, and turning to his friend he said, "You are a Christian--
What do you know of this thing called life and this place called heaven•
His friend replied, "Not much
and then thinking for a moment, replied "Do you hear that scratching at
the door. That. is my dog. He's never been here before. He doesn't know
what's on the other side of the door, but he knows his master is here.
That's all he needs to know.
Christ said,
"I
go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there
you may be also."
The wife of Charles Kingsley had such a faith.
She met, married and lived with her husband through the bright moments of their unity.
and then...when the time for departure came she was able to have inscribed on her tombstone...
