I recently read a book called SPIRITUAL DEPRESSION, IT’S CAUSE AND ITS CURE .
“The main art in the matter of spiritual living is to know how to handle yourself. You have to take yourself in hand, you have to address yourself, preach to yourself, and question yourself.”
In other words, you must say to your soul, “Why art thou cast down? What business have you to be disquieted?”
You must turn on yourself, upbraid yourself, exhort yourself, and say to yourself, “Hope thou in God.”
When you awoke this morning, I have no doubt you awoke talking to yourself. But perhaps all of what you were hearing wasn’t particularly good for your being. Nor all your thoughts good for your soul.
“Thoughts are not arrows haphazardly shot out into the cosmos. They are boomerangs. ” (quote from The Gift by Richard Paul Evans)
And if we are not careful, maybe it was destructive talking and thinking. The kind no one should start a day with. So talk back. Have an Operation Talk-Back session; being positive when negative thoughts threaten to overwhelm.
I have a short prayer I sometimes pray, “Dear Lord, I have been having negative thoughts. Please make it so they don’t end up having me.”
