Many eons ago a man sought an artist who could paint a picture that depicted perfect peace.  But try as he might and traveling the world over, he could not find such an artist anywhere.

So he decided he would see if such a picture could make its way to him.

He had great wealth so he sent out posters far

and wide promising a large sum of money to whomever could paint him a picture of perfect peace.

The works of art began to arrive.  Morning noon and night he examined countless paintings.

Thousands of pictures of sunrises and sunsets.

One in particular caught his imagination, a mirror-smooth lake reflecting lacy, green birches under the soft blush of the evening sky. Along the grassy shore, a flock of sheep grazed undisturbed. Surely this was the one.

But when the cut off date came, there were now two pictures that sat in his study, each covered by a silken cloth.

When the first painting was revealed, yes, it was that idyllic one with the mirror-smooth lake and the peaceful shore dotted with grazing sheep.

And everyone who saw it for the first time gasped.

And then the other picture was revealed.
The artist had painted a tumultuous waterfall cascading down a rocky precipice, the crowd could almost feel its cold, penetrating spray.

Dark billowing clouds exploded with lightning -.

one could almost feel the bitter chill as the driven

rain crashed against the mountain side.

And then everyone’s attention was drawn to a spindly tree clinging to the rocks at the foot of the falls.

One of its branches reached out in front of the torrential waters as if foolishly seeking to experience its full power.

And there, in the elbow of that branch the artist had painted a tiny bird in a fragile nest.

Content and undisturbed in her stormy surroundings, she rested on her eggs, at peace with her destiny and her life.

And that is what is offered to us.  Contentment - not because of where we are, or who we are, or what we have, but because of what the Lord offers us. In a sense, what He left us in His will.

That’s right…in a sense before He died, Christ made out a will.
Remember the sequence:

He willed His Mother to John, the son of Zebedee.

He willed His spirit back to His father.

But to His disciples He said,

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14:27)

This is not a will that can be broken by some clever lawyer, but an eternal promise written in the Savior’s blood and filed in the courts of heaven.

No judge or jury can set it aside.

Believe it.  Hold it close when the night is dark and you are afraid.

Believe it.  When all about you is good and you are filled with joy.

Travel with this belief every minute of every day…and you will have that “peace not as the world giveth” for the simple reason that it is an out of this world gift…and you can have no greater peace than that.

THE SPIRITUAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN

“A book superior in style and content.”

Quote from book below

Lincoln was once quoted as having said, “I don’t like that man.  I must get to know him better.”  People in the South did not like that man, Lincoln, and they were not about to try to get to know him better.  Inexplicably both sides called out to the Prince of Peace for help in winning a war.
