The agnostic actor W.C. Fields was once caught in his dressing room reading the Bible. He hurriedly closed it and explained, “Just looking for loopholes.” But, of course, most likely he was looking for God’s grace.

Are you of the mind-set that leads you to believe you don't deserve God's forgiveness? That Christianity is really for saints, not sinners, so you cannot possibly qualify?
Do you think that to atone for your sins you must pick up a 21st? century cross and when you have carried it one half mile, the actual length of the Via Dolorosa, you must then stop and ask someone to nail you to it?

I talk with people all the time who feel that the sins they have committed are beyond forgiveness.

That they have actually committed the unpardonable sin, or sins.

For years I have watched people struggle with what God's grace really means. In Greek it means, "I rejoice." To Paul it meant he no longer had to be a Saul. To John Newton, once a slave trader, deserter, traitor, and finally a child of God, it meant he could write the hymn "Amazing Grace, that saved a wretch like me."

A question. Does God smile when we do good? Of course. Does he frown and desert us when we are bad? Of course not! He isn't constantly changing the game plan, changing the rules by having a minus point total which, if we exceed it, we are beyond forgiveness. God doesn't demand that I always qualify.

He has already done the qualifying for me. One thing I remember from my student days concerns teachers who graded on the curve. Fortunately, God doesn’t do this. He grades from the cross.

You want to know something positively wonderful? No matter what sin we’ve committed, when God speaks our name, we are safe because we are saved.

Are you the baddest of the bad? Are you the goodest of the good? Most likely you are neither, and neither am I. The most of us are somewhere in-between. But I will tell you who we are. We are putty in the hands of a loving God who wants to shape us and mend us and make us better. Who on the day we die will never have given up on us.

RECENTLY STARTED Serialization of another book SIXTY PLUS AND NOT HOLDING

This book, SIXTY PLUS AND NOT HOLDING, is about dealing positively with the challenges of getting older and fosters the belief that “If we would have new knowledge, we must get a world of new questions.” (Susanne K. Langer)

“I am come that they (you) may have life and have it to the full. (John 10:10)

Anyone who lives long enough gets older. There are no other options. How we handle the adventure is filled with options.

Keep both eyes on life, and not on the calendar. Admit your age, but don’t admit to the fallacy that you have to act like it. Saying, “I’m 39 and holding,” is more tragic than humorous because it argues that age has no attributes.

V. Neil Wyrick

Below a quote from it…
“Be like the farmer who, when asked what he was building, replied, “if I can rent it, it’s a rustic cottage. If I can’t, it’s a cow shed.”

It’s called attitude and it can make us prematurely old or longer young. For truly, things aren’t just what they are, but rather how we choose to see them.”

“Man lives by getting and forgetting. God lives by giving and forgiving.” (Author unknown) The Psalmist wrote “a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” (Psalm 86:15)
