One of England’s great ministers in his first sermon after the death of his wife wrote, “I do not understand this life of ours.

But even less can I comprehend how people in trouble and loss and bereavement can fling away peevishly from the Christian faith. In God’s name, fling to what? Have we not lost enough without losing that too?”

It is wisdom to face the fact of death and definitely foolishness not to.

However, there are those who seem unable to.

It may be their own death they avoid thinking of or the death of a loved one, but if they haven’t, or can’t, only trouble lies ahead. Denial may seem to have solace in it but it doesn’t.

It only drives the pain deep down inside where it can and will do even greater damage.

Her hair is white, her face lined with pain, each day she writes a letter to her beloved Eddie. But he never receives the letters for her son is dead and has been for years. In the state hospital she is but one of many who have been unable to endure their grief.

Before the time comes for each of us personally to receive our one way ticket to heaven, it is best beyond compare if we truly accept Christ’s words “…be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”

By such doing, the valley of the shadow of death becomes a green and growing thing, rather than an arid frightening place of nothingness and despair.

Stand before eternity alone and panic has to step in. Stand there with your Savior by your side and there is all the difference in the world.

V. A. Koskenniemi, a Finnish pioet-philosopher who died in 1962 wrote, “Man is not free in life unless he is free from the fear of death as well.”

The Apostle Paul wrote, “(Your body) is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory, it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.” (1 Corinthians 15:42-44)

RECENTLY STARTED A Serialization of another book SIXTY PLUS AND NOT HOLDING

This book, SIXTY PLUS AND NOT HOLDING, is about dealing positively with the challenges of getting older and fosters the belief that “If we would have new knowledge, we must get a world of new questions.” (Susanne K. Langer)

“I am come that they (you) may have life and have it to the full. (John 10:10)

Anyone who lives long enough gets older. There are no other options. How we handle the adventure is filled with options.

Keep both eyes on life, and not on the calendar. Admit your age, but don’t admit to the fallacy that you have to act like it. Saying, “I’m 39 and holding,” is more tragic than humorous because it argues that age has no attributes.

V. Neil Wyrick

Below a quote from it…

“Be like the farmer who, when asked what he was building, replied, “if I can rent it, it’s a rustic cottage. If I can’t, it’s a cow shed.”

It’s called attitude and it can make us prematurely old or longer young. For truly, things aren’t just what they are, but rather how we choose to see them.”

A quote below from tomorrow’s ONE A DAY blog entitled GOD LOVES YOU WARTS AND ALL
“You want to know something positively wonderful? No matter what sin we’ve committed, when God speaks our name, we are safe because we are saved.

Are you the baddest of the bad? Are you the goodest of the good? Most likely you are neither, and neither am I. The most of us are somewhere in-between. But I will tell you who we are. We are putty in the hands of a loving God who wants to shape us and mend us and make us better. Who on the day we die will never have given up on us. “
