When storms blow in from the east and take over south Florida’s weather, they seldom huff and puff with enough force to actually blow our houses down.
However, at such times when nature does get out of hand, the first question everyone asks is, “When my house was built, was it built right?”
This is what Lent is all about. What each individual can do to make the house called you strong and stable.
The Christian advises in this time of faith to get a top-notch contractor named Jesus to coordinate all decisions and designs and to do it on a regular basis.
Check out the Bible…it is filled with first rate building plans. Want your roof anchored properly. Check out the patriarchs, the 10 Commandments and the laws of love set down by the Master craftsman.”
Getting one’s house in order is more than a clever phrase. It is an eternal instinct, or it should be.
There is no doubt the house called you is much like the house you live in, a work in progress, constantly in need of improvement and repairs.
Nor should we haphazardly decide what to accumulate or throw away. Such decisions definitely make a profound and lasting impression on the kind of person we are and who we are becoming.
The shape of the house called you may have gabled protrusions of selfishness or a steep, slanted roof of prejudice. Its color may be green for envy, or red for anger, blue for depression, or gray for indifference. Or, it may be beautifully shaped, well proportioned and tastefully painted because of the faith you have inside. But all this has happened because you chose them.
Even if the house called you is built on rock, and God willing it is, it can always be improved on because “All men have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” And yes, there is so much good in the worst of us and even more hope in the best of us looking for a place to happen.
For years, my wife Tucky and I have been constantly making improvements and changes to our old house.
Because of the efforts, it looks better, functions better and brings us greater joy. The house called you is no different. Improve on it, where it is needed.
Give it the chance to look better and work better and it will reward you with memories that bloom and blossom rather than wither and die.
The house called you is a friend or enemy. Therefore, think well about each change you make for after all, who would want to live in and with an enemy.

Serialization of another book SIXTY PLUS AND NOT HOLDING
This book, SIXTY PLUS AND NOT HOLDING, is about dealing positively with the challenges of getting older and fosters the belief that “If we would have new knowledge, we must get a world of new questions.” (Susanne K. Langer)
MANY OF THE IDEAS IN THIS BOOK FOR BETTER LIVING ARE GOOD FOR ANY AGE.
“I am come that they (you) may have life and have it to the full. (John 10:10)
Anyone who lives long enough gets older. There are no other options. How we handle the adventure is filled with options.
Keep both eyes on life, and not on the calendar. Admit your age, but don’t admit to the fallacy that you have to act like it. Saying, “I’m 39 and holding,” is more tragic than humorous because it argues that age has no attributes.
V. Neil Wyrick
Below a quote from it…
“Be like the farmer who, when asked what he was building, replied, “if I can rent it, it’s a rustic cottage. If I can’t, it’s a cow shed.”

It’s called attitude and it can make
us prematurely old or longer young. For truly, things aren’t just what
they are, but rather how we choose to see them.”

A quote below from tomorrow’s ONE A DAY blog entitled HOW TO CONQUER YOUR CONFUSIONS.
“In the race of life stumbling comes easy, even to the point of falling.
Facing this inevitability is important. But then comes the challenge of giving in or praying up, of becoming victims of other people’s bitter attitudes or rewarding ourselves by hungering after God and beauty like the child called “us” once did.”
