Alexander
the Great, was walking through camp one day, and as he was wont to do...he
paused to speak with a soldier whose demeanor had been bothering him for quite
some while.
"What
is your name?" Alexander asked.
"Alexander:
came back the reply.
There
was a short pause and Alexander looked at the soldier and said, "Young
man, change your ways or change your name."
The ancient Hebrews gave heed to their names...their names
meant something.
Jacob meant "one who supplants."
Solomon meant "peaceable" and his was a reign of
peace.
Jesus called Simon...Peter...meaning "rock" and
eventually he was this and more.
The name Jesus means..."Helper" "Deliverer"
"Savior" and indeed He was and is...all of these.
What does your name
stand for in the community where you live...at the workplace...within your
family circle?
You shape it's meaning and give it life by
how you act...by what you say...pick some adjectives and attach them to your
name and see if they fit and if you want them to fit...good adjectives...bad
adjectives...
Once
there were three men...their names were Shadrach, Meshach and Abdnego.
One day, as the Bible tells us, they
stood before a THING with a head of gold, arms of silver, thigs of brass and
feet of clay.
And
while the rest of the people all around bowed down to this Babylonian God,
these men would not...and because of the courage of their faith ...there are
few who do not know the names of Shadrach, Meshak and Abednego.
Thomas Huxley was not a Christian but he said some words
that should challenge everyone one of us who claim to be, "It doesn't take
much of a man to be a Christian, but it does take all there is of
him."

It's an old joke, I went to the doctor and I
said, “Doc, when I do this, it hurts.” And the doctor said, “Then don't do

How many things have you been anxious
about that were things which you knew before you got into them were probably
going to create some problems for you?
And if you asked your doctor, or your minister, or common sense and your
God, all of them would have said, “Don’t to that.”
