It can even make a problem fun.
Truly.
Recently I have had balance problems along with the problems of recovering
from my broken hip and yes working toward improving these two problems has
become "fun."
The particular joy of increased exercise producing definite
improvement in these two areas is exciting.
It is sometimes two steps forward and one
step backwards, bunts and singles instead of home runs...but progress is such a
joyous process.
And where did I get such a positive way of looking at
things. Well, some would say "It's
in your DNA Neil" and I would not argue but I also know that...
...I have spent my life praying for the
Promise Land of Not Giving Up...of praying with vigor when I was down in the
direction of up.
"Be on
your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong." 1Co
16:13-14 and I take it to heart.
I have stumbled and
even fallen but I have never chosen to lay there and become a monument to
misery.
I have gone to bat hoping to make a home
run against some problem and had to settle for a bunt but I have gone back to
the plate again and again. I know I can
achieve no victory by taking up residence on a sideline.
There are
times in our lives when the choice is for courage or cowardice. Such as Daniel when he ignored the Kings
prohibiting all people to pray. It
gained him resident privileges in a
Lion's den but he knew what was right and his moral courage held firm.
Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego who refused to bow and worship the Golden Image of the
King. Moses looking a Pharaoh in the face and
crying out "Let my people go."
It has happened time and time again in
the history of the world. Those who
stood tall for right and righteousness.
Those who fought against slavery. Those who fought for civil rights. Those who
died in concentration camps not always because they were Jews but because they
fought Nazism.
Moral midgets
or moral giants. Each generation has its
opportunities and some live tall and sun crowned above the crowd and some cower
in a corner.
Obey God's
words. Moral courage has the backing of
heaven.
The Ten
Commandments are not the Ten Suggestions and when you stand for these moral
edicts from on high you do not stand alone.
There is an underlying courage in such a stand because in so doing you
are undergirded by God.
Jos 1:8 Do not let this Book of the Law
depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be
careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and
successful.

Are you a
member of the Spiritual Secret Service.
Making moral statements right and left but never in word or deed. Whispering in your own ear. Having a
discussion in your soul self to self about the conditions of the world while
doing nothing about the conditions of the world.
Can we call it the courage of the
uncourageous?
You say
"I believe in God but I am not a courageous person." And perhaps you are not...but you can be more
courageous when God is present...whatever it is that demands and cries out for
your courage...put God on your lips and from your heart and you can be a
giant...or if not a giant...at least a taller stronger bigger person than you
would otherwise ever be. YES...YOU
CAN!!!
Do you avoid hurting people? Sick
people. Complaining people. People who badly need a handshake or a
hug. Unattractive people who turn people
away and you allow yourself to be one of those people who allow yourself to be
turned away.
It takes
compassion to do otherwise but it also takes courage. Courage to put yourself
where many fear to tread.
Be courageous
for your Lord. Stand firm for your
faith. Wishy washiness is in vogue these
days. Political correctness has almost
become the Holy Grail.
Look down my friend. Look where your feet have been. Where courage has taken you. Where they have stopped because of cowardice.
Look down my
friend for your footsteps are making markings on the page of your personal
history. They have been doing this since
the day of your birth. they will do it
until the day of your death.
As you walk
does the word INTEGRITY pulse before your eyes?
I hope so.
The world hopes so.
For without enough people who have this
VISION the world is blind to God and when the world is blind to God everyone
becomes blind in the enveloping darkness.
