Below the thoughts below read a quote from Rev. Wyrick's applauded 9th book THE SPIRITUAL ARAHAM LINCOLN

                +++++++++++

Abraham Lincoln had many enemies, more than he could count and one of the reasons was that though he acknowledged he would make and had made many errors he would not compromise his integrity.

So strong was this resolve that he once said, “I desire so to conduct the affairs of this administration that if at the end, when I come to lay down the reins of power, I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down deep inside of me.

How is your integrity rating these days?  For your sake and the world we live in I hope it grades out at A+.

Unfortunately for many this is not true...and a dishonest world creates chaos.  When trust dies so does hope.

A person of integrity may be beat up and bruised.  I have a friend who was fired not that long ago because his integrity got in the way of company policy so they killed the messenger.

I have known others who have paid the price and others who have benefited from carrying a torch of truth...but what happens after moments of integrity is not as important as simply doing what is right.

Easier said than done?  Yes.  But what if the whole world stays quiet while everything goes to the dogs and the devil dances with glee.

We'll all end up living in a kennel.

I bought a new computer not that long ago.  It did not really look that much different on the outside from my old computer...but oh what a difference there was inside.  Watch my new computer in action..and wow...you can definitely tell the difference.

That is how it is with a person of integrity.  Walking down the street you can't tell the difference but walk with them through a day and a week and more...and wow...you can tell the difference.

Fairy tale Princes Story Turns Sour After Newlyweds Lose Money.” So read the headlines of the Daily Herald in Chicago on February 20, 1996. A newlywed couple had left a black zippered case on the roof of their car as they sped away from the reception to begin their honeymoon.

The case had all their wedding gift money in it - $12,000. By the time they reached their destination it was gone.

Two days later the same newspaper carried headlines to a related story: “Finders Keepers? Not All Believe It!” David Yi, an unemployed suburban resident, had come upon a black bag with $12,000 in cash.

In spite of his mounting bills and jobless state, he didn’t keep the money. Tracking the couple down, he returned the full amount. When asked why he turned it in, he said, “I guess it doesn’t matter whether it’s $50 or $1,000 or $1 million. It doesn’t belong to you.”

Proverbs 10:9 - The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out.  It can't be any clearer than that.

Would you like to increase your integrity ranking and rating?  Well let us identify it by referring to certain individuals and see if you can identify with these individuals.  Find a little of yourself in their attitudes.

Martin Luther's words that market the beginning of the Reformation "Here I stand."

William Wilberforce, who stood alone but firm and got slavery abolished in England.

Ghandi...

People with integrity know it is never in passive mode.  Know that it promotes activity that ruffles feathers and creates change.

Integrity is a high maintenance that is well worth the effort.
A preacher got on a bus and as he sat down realized he had been given too much change.
As he left the bus he turned to the driver and said "You gave me too much money in change."
"I know" came back the reply.  "I was in your church yesterday and I wanted to see if you practiced what you preached."

We build a reputation for integrity or kill our reputation because the world really is aware.

So...why is integrity so important?

Because you are happier with yourself and the world is happier with you.

And God...well...if you are committed to him then by your practice of integrity you daily prove it.

       QUOTES ON INTEGRITY

The best index to a person's character is (a) how he treats people who can't do him any good, and (b) how he treats people who can't fight back.Abigail Van Buren

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.       Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.Abraham Lincoln

Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks.Phillips Brooks

A man's treatment of money is the most decisive test of his character - how he makes it and how he spends it.James Moffatt

A new quote  (posted nov 12) below from Rev. Wyrick's 9th book THE SPIRITUAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN (read the rave reviews below the quote)

Was Lincoln, before he died, overly proud that he had so much to do with the preserving of the Union?

It is more likely that he quoted once again words of one of his favorite poets, William Knox, “Oh, why should the spirit of mortal be proud?”

As he walked the streets of Richmond, Virginia in an unannounced visit after that city had fallen to the North, it was said that he was the man of the people among the people.

When an elderly Negro had run toward him shouting praise, Lincoln lifted his hat and bowed, and wiped away a tear or two.

"Positive, powerful utterances...skillfully enhancing our understanding and appreciation of Lincoln while revealing the Divine source of his strength."

Lt. Colonel C.A. Olsen (Ret.) Asbury College (Professor Ret.)

"The Spiritual Abraham Lincoln is an extremely well written book that investigates what might be termed the spiritual side of President Lincoln. It's both scholarly and very readable. I came away impressed at Mr. Wyrick's portrayal of the President and with an altered and enlarged vision of the man:'

William Hoffman, Award winning fiction writer; author of Blood and Guile, and Wild Thorn

"Wyrick has authored a wonderful examination of the spirituality of one of American history's most devoutly religious leaders...a pleasant and readable book that has a rich depth of information."

              Maynard Pittendreigh Presbyterian minister

"When it comes to invoking religion in support of any of their decisions, politicians need to sit at the feet of Abraham Lincoln. Reinhold Niebuhr once called him 'America's greatest theologian.' Why so great? Because he invariably distinguished between human works and the works of the Almighty. As Wyrick says, 'He wore the mantle of humility easily: because he was more impressed with what God was doing in the world than with what he, president of the United States in the midst of an awful crisis, was doing. That is why in his last major speech he distinguished between both human causes in the Civil War and the Almighty's 'own purposes.' Lincoln would have agreed that it is better to leave God-talk out of politics than to decorate human proposals with divinity. This is a book for our American time. Through his careful study of Lincoln's career, Wyrick compels us to remember that piety belongs in politics only when piety transcends politics."

       Dr. Donald W. Shriver

Emeritus professor at Union Theological Seminary in New York. Author of An Ethic for Enemies: Forgiveness in Politics

"V. Neil Wyrick's fine work allows the reader to appreciate Abraham Lincoln's Christian commitment and his prophetic role in American history. Should have a wide readership."

James H. Smylie Professor of Church History (Ret.) Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia

"Neil Wyrick's The Spiritual Abraham Lincoln should be read by anyone attempting to understand the man who was probably the most complex person to ever hold the office of president of the United States. Dr. Wyrick is intent on demonstrating that the spirituality so often expressed in Lincoln's writings and speeches was not merely lip service to a Deity, but rather expressions of a profound faith in a real God. It was this faith that provided the wisdom, compassion, insight and sometimes steel that Lincoln would need in full measure as he led the United States through the Civil War. Dr. Wyrick's clear and unpretentious style of presentation is very much in keeping with the character ofhis subject, and in so doing, Wyrick makes his point very well that Lincoln, his beliefs, and the faith that formed them, are as relevant to a troubled America in 2004 as they were in 1863."

Daniel Allen Butler, author of "Unsinkable"; The Full Story of the RMS Titanic, The Lusitania and The Age o f Cunard

There are questions you had rather not be asked.  Perhaps the following are some of them.

Would you allow someone to disrespect your wife?  Your mother?  Your father?

The last time someone used the Lord's name in vain (disrespected Him)did you say anything?

Is your answer "Oh, that's different!"  Is it?

Is this pollution of the air beneficial to society?

Why is it allowed?  Because people don't want to be considered a religious crank?

       Religious?

Have you taken a stand for your faith and your beliefs and the moral standards you believe in...in the last 24 hours...week...month...????

Does it make a difference?  For what?  For whom?  For when?

What is that phase "Go along to get along."

"Stand up, stand up for Jesus."  How many times have you sung the hymn?  How many times have you done the deed?

It isn't like you are trying to sell your soul as one student tried to do on e-bay several years agi but then by not speaking up is that not a little like selling your soul to the wrong bidder.

There is a coin in a British Museum that was stamped during the days oof Constantine.  On one side are Christian emblems and on the other side heathen gods.

"Where do you stand?"  Is it determined by the flip of the coin and where you are standing on the day the coin is flipped?

White stone?  Black stone?  In ancient times a judge after hearing a case would drop a white stone or a black stone in an urn.

A white stone would mean an acquittal.  A black stone (blackballed) would mean condemnation.

Every day you in a sense walk around with a white stone in your hand and a black stone in your hand...and the opportunity does quite often arise...for you... to blackball your Christ.

In the mountains of East Tennessee, there is a beautiful little church with a strange name.

On the sign out front the name is artfully written: “Compromise Church.”

There is a story behind the name. The church had been built early in the 20th century and the congregation could not agree on a name.

One group of people wanted to call it one name and another group was determined to call it something else. The conflict in the church became so severe that it threatened to break up the church family. In the end they called it the “Compromise Church”

There is a time for compromise and there is a time that was not meant for compromise and we all know the difference.
