Are you willing to take a test? If so, take out a piece of paper and make a quick drawing of how you see yourself.
Did
you draw a picture of someone up and going or a picture of some torpid
creature in a darkened room isolated from the light of life? Did
you draw a picture with a musical note above your head to show there is
a song in your heart, or a thunder cloud hovering over your head?
We are how we see ourselves. And yes, a positive self-image can improve mental and physical health. Indeed, I love a poster I once saw that read “Go ahead and touch me. Wrinkles aren’t contagious.”
I recently got into a conversation with a man and his wife in an airport and he told me, “California redwoods are old. Mountains are old. Me? I’m just a kid.” His wife added, “I’m getting old (she was 78) but I’ll probably die before I make it.”
Do I suggest being unabashedly positive and traveling as often as
possible down a sunshine road? Without reservation the answer is a
resounding YES! Think spring, not fall. Grow
some new leaves. Make retirement or semi-retirement a friend and not
an enemy. Better still, a window of opportunity.
Be like the farmer who, when asked what he was building, replied, “If I can rent it, it’s a rustic cottage. If I can’t, it’s a cow shed.”
On that piece of paper, write down the letter C…big and bold. Then print in big and gold “I am going to plan a BEAUTIFY MY LIFE campaign.”
It is called attitude and it can make us prematurely old or longer young. For truly, things aren’t just what they are, but rather how we choose to see them. We do live by our philosophies. You are the product of your thoughts.
“The merry heart doeth good like a medicine.”
That’s what the book of Proverbs says. And yet too many don’t believe
it. Or certainly don’t act like it. Yes, there are things in the world
that are truly a pain or problem. But it is still better to force a
grin rather than give into a grimace.
“Earth’s crammed with heaven,” said Thoreau. Hold on to that jewel. It’ll help you to maximize your blessings-recognition skills of God’s freebies.
“If you cannot do great things, you can do small things in a great
way,” was the way J.F. Clarke put it. “We were given two ends; one for
sitting and one for thinking. Whether you are a success depends on
which you use: heads you win, tails
you lose.” Don’t have a clue who wrote this. “The only way to have a
friend is to be one.” Good old Ralph Waldo Emerson penned this
thought.
Hope you enjoyed these wandering thoughts of mine. They have been
wandering around in my cerebral for going on over eighty years. Now,
hopefully they will keep on wandering around in yours.
QUOTES FROM LINCOLN BOOK THE SPIRITUAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN
Meanwhile,
some strange solutions were being proposed. One such outlandish
suggestion was having two presidents: one from the South and one from
the North. Let them alternate every four years. Would this not be
better than war? asked some. Others, along with Lincoln, could see absolutely no reason to give a stamp of approval to division.
