FEAR, FIGHT IT OR FEED IT

There are over 600 stories and commentaries on this blog. It is added to daily.

We have all been afraid – some more, some less, some-where, for some reason, and more than once.  Indeed, if you were to tell me you have never been afraid, I will tell you that you are either a liar or a fool.

That being said, it is well to remember that, “Worry gives small things a big shadow.” (an old Swedish proverb)

What thing then, big or small can we do to begin to handle fear rather than be handled by it.  Well, think on this.

I have preached more than one sermon on love in my over thirty years of ministry.  And I have done so for because I know that love of God and our fellowman, is one of the greatest deterrents to fear there is.  It actually fights fear while self-love and selfishness would otherwise be busy feeding our anxieties.

There is a spiritual strength in otherness that translates into a tranquility that cannot be found in any other way.  It is that simple.

Philippians 4:4-9 reads,Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!  Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men.  The Lord is near.  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

In other words, cool it.  Then your faith in Christ will give your head-strings, your heart-strings and your soul-strings more of the peace that passeth understanding.  And that is the point, you don’t have to understand it, just accept it and revel in the gift.

Fear is definitely a reality check for all of us, and if we are to master it or at least subdue it some, we have to get an attitude such as the following and then hang on to that attitude with might and main.

Got any rivers you think are uncross-able
Got any mountains you can’t tunnel through?
God specializes in things thought impossible.
He does the things others can’t do. (author unknown)

SOME QUOTES FROM Rev. Wyrick’s 9TH BOOK “THE SPIRITUAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN”

Preface

This book is more than just a march down memory lane.  It is certainly not a search-and-destroy mission as are some historical efforts.  It is really a questing for an understanding of the man able to write, “He has the right to criticize who has the heart to
help.”    “Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?”  “It is the duty of all nations as well as of men to owe their dependence upon the over ruling power of God.”1   “With malice toward none; with charity toward all…”
