THE LIFE AND HOPEFULLY NOT DEATH OF A CONSCIENCE

It was a winter morning and a couple while eating breakfast was listening to the radio. The coffee was hot. The eggs were growing cold.

The announcer was perky, but pessimistic as far as the weather was concerned. To his listeners he was saying, “We’re going to have lots of snow today. You must park your car on the even-numbered side of the street, so the snowplows can get through.” The wife went out and moved her car.

A week later, the same radio program was interrupted by the announcement, “We are expecting 10 to 12 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the odd-numbered side of the street so the snowplows can get through.” Exasperated but obedient, the wife went back out into the cold and moved her car again.

The next week as they were again eating breakfast, the weatherman announced, “We are expecting 12 to 14 inches of snow today. You must park…” and the electricity went out.

“Honey, I don’t know what to do,” the wife exclaimed. “Which side of the street do I need to park on so the snowplows can get through?”

With great love and patience he simply suggested, “Why don’t you just leave it in the garage?”

People think it is hard to do the right thing. It’s not hard to do the right thing. Sometimes it is hard to know what the right thing is, but once you know, once you know what is right, then it’s hard not to do it.

Unfortunately, people get confused on where to park their morality, and end up parking all over the place. And well…then it’s Troublesville, Inc.
