The
bottom line of Christianity is not joining something but becoming
some-thing.
The whole business
of church membership is not just learning about Christ – that makes you a
disciple.
It is rather declaring
what you have learned when you walk and work in the marketplace – that makes
you an apostle. And
there is a difference. For the world is
filled with disciples: secret, cautious Christians, the silent Sam’s and
Sally’s who can quote you book, chapter and verse – in secret.
Timid, tongue-tied
followers who leave the church hanging on by its spiritual fingernails; 21st century Peters who deny their Christ, three times and more, when asked about their
faith, because they are so afraid.
Yes, afraid. And fear is the soul’s most ancient
enemy. Fear of responsibility. Fear of failure. Fear of ridicule.
Some questions: Is not
undeclared loyalty as bad as no loyalty at all?
If we are not a moral resource are we an immoral or amoral resource? If we do not stand for something do we then
stand for anything?
Is the world filled
with Christians whimpering with a splinter in their finger while Christ carried
a cross?
History tells us that some
churches in Nazi Germany and Communist Cuba and Russia
Why?
Because it is so much
easier to be a window than a door. To
watch life in action rather than try to influence it. To watch the community but not invite the
community in...and then influence the community by so doing.
To
be neither good nor bad, but indifferent.
Lukewarm is the way the Bible put it.
Almost 500 years ago
Martin Luther proclaimed, “Here I stand,” and proved that one man’s commitment
can make a difference.
“Here I come,” and it is you walking
through your church door again and again and again...and sometimes with a
potential new Christian by your side.
Can you hear
that?
It is Jesus quietly
whispering in the ear of your soul, and perhaps He is saying to you, Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, the world is listening.
Or, Do not hide your light under a bushel, the world is looking.
Or, Let Me make you a fisher of men, there is such a need in the world.

subscription is everything.”
