One day, St. Francis of Assisi was at work in his garden with a hoe.
A friend came by and asked, “What would you do if you knew you die at sunset?”
St. Francis reply was very simple and to the point, “I would finish hoeing my garden.”
By 7 PM tonight or tomorrow’s 7 PM if you knew that by that time you would be dead, what would you do?
Would you rush out to forgive an enemy?
Would you rush forward to give more money to a charity?
Would you rush to your knees to pray an extra and more fervent prayer?
All of us know we could live better and should live better and tomorrow we are going to do just that.
The Apostle Paul talks about people who make beautiful promise and never do anything about them.
He says they speak with the tongues of men and angels, but (are) no better than sounding brass or tinkling cymbals.
“And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.”
