The little girl was so excited. They were at Disney World and she was going to ride the roller coaster on Space mountain.
She had been warned by her father that it was fast and had sharp turns and might be too scary for her.
But she wanted to ride it anyway. And she did…three times.
The next year as she stood in line ready to ride again her father could see that she was carefully studying the signs that warn about the ride’s speed.
Finally, she turned to him and said, “Dad, I don’t want to go.”
“Why dear,” you enjoyed it so much last year.
“Yeah, I know dad. But this year I can read.”
Before you start to think about the day before you and worry about the day before you…consider the following things that probably aren’t going to happen.
You wake up face down on the pavement.
You call Suicide Prevention and they put you on hold.
You see a "60 Minutes" news team waiting in your office.
Your birthday cake collapses from the weight of the candles.
You turn on the news and they're showing emergency routes out of the city.
Your twin sister forgot your birthday.
Your car horn goes off accidentally and remains stuck as you follow a group of Hell's Angels on the freeway.
But just in case you decide you’d like to lessen the things you worry about…try some of the following
“Set aside a day 3 to 7 days from now to worry…then write the worry down and put it in a box…then when that day comes, and you pull your written worries out, you may well be surprised at how many of the things you were worried about will have been solved or you will have learned how to live with it or them.”
Sing at least once a day…it doesn’t matter whether you have a good voice or not…just the act of singing is good for your insides…
Bloom like a flower…be a positive voice in the midst of negative events…something good can be found in almost everything…so be a finder…a cotton pickin’ bloomin’ finder who having found the good in the midst of bad rushes around sharing it with all of those around you.
Daily seek out a sunrise or a sunset (both is better) and let their joyous creative moment surge over you like an incoming tide.
Read your Bible…it will increase your knowledge of God and that will increase your faith. You say you don’t have the time while you are using some of that time you don’t have to worry.
And as a way to improve your attitude toward worry; think of it as a rocking chair…it gives you something to do but it doesn’t get you anywhere.
The Scots have a good way of thinking they have a proverb that goes “What may be, may not be."
Consider that worry does nothing good for you…it certainly does not lengthen you life or improve your health.
“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4).
