ANDREW (JOHN 1:40) ANDREW, brother ofPeter, did not major in hesitation, immediately upon meeting Jesus he accepted him as the Messiah.
He and John were the first converts.

He was present when Jesus was baptized because he was a follower of John The Baptist.

Andrew had many distinctions and since there is always relevance to numbers it is no small thing that in the Gospels he is always named as one ofthe first four called to discipleship.

He became a constant companion of Jesus during the years ofHis ministry.

Certainly he was present at the Last Supper, and he was among the group of disciples to whom Christ appeared after the Resurrection.

He also was witness to the Ascension and he shared in the majesty of the Pentecost.

Ancient writers relate that he went out as a missionary to Sythia and other nearby countries.

This was no small thing since pagan rulers were not likely to give him a "preacher of the month" award. It cannot be proven, but it is conjectured that he founded a church in Constantinople.

Most historians agree that his tragic end took place in Patrae, a city of Achaia.

There, bravely refusing an order to offer a sacrifice to pagan gods, the Roman governor had him scourged and crucified.

THE SONS OF THUNDER

James and his brother John were sons ofZebedee, all apparently successful fishermen ofBethsaida. Jesus soon nicknamed them Boanerges which means

l "sons of thunder". This should dispel any notion that either was meek and mild.
