HOW IMPORTANT IS FORGETTING?
Suppose
the Navy had forgotten to show up to support the landing troops on D-Day? Suppose you had forgotten to show up for
school on a regular basis and therefore never graduated?
Suppose
Paul had forgotten to show up for his missionary journeys? Suppose all the disciples had forgotten to
show up at the Last Supper?
You know how it is...honest forgetting and convenient
forgetting.
Suppose Martin Luther had kept meaning to get his 95 thesis
written but he was always so tired and busy and so he just kept on forgetting.
Suppose God had forgotten to send His son to earth over
2000 years ago...
The
forgetters are bad.
The
forgetters on purpose are worse.
The
worse still are the HALF FORGETTERS.
The
half dooers...the half follow throughers...the deadly dull lineup of dreams
never becoming deeds.
The convenience of forgetting some things never goes
away...
The
Disciple Peter had a dream...he would be a faithful follower of Jesus and then
because of fear he conveniently forgot who he was and Jesus was and denied him.
It's easy to lose focus...far too easy...like a number of
years ago during a particular hunt the foxes lost their focus...forgot what
their goal was...started out chasing a stag like they were supposed to...but
then a fox crossed their path...and they forgot the stag and started chasing
the fox...and then a little bit later a rabbit crossed their path and they
abandoned the fox and took off after the rabbit...only to have a mouse enter
the scene and become what now they chased...until finally at the end they stood
barking and guarding a mouse hole.
Have you ever done that?
Found yourself barking down the wrong hole? Chasing the wrong goal. Forgetting what you were supposed to be
focused on.
Dreams don't just die...sometimes they are murdered.
Convenient
forgetting does have its rewards. The
pathway of least resistance is alive and well.
But what if this convenient forgetting could be
subdued... and positive remembering be inserted in its place...
And thereby the conversion of forgotten
dreams converted into gleaming deeds.
How?
Well...some suggestions...some insights from almost 84 years
of living.
Wed yourself to your dream. Carry it with you through thick and thin, in
sickness and in health, in good times and bad times, in joy and in sorrow.
Grow like a fern.
Get so excited about following through on your promises to yourself and
your God that you grow fast...like a fern does...slow is O.K. but when you can
actually feel your improvement because you have doubled your prayers and your
thinking positive God centered thoughts and not
conveniently forgetting.
Be best friends with Jesus.
Seek to live your best life now...not in some distant
future.
Accept God's forgiveness for your sins and then get on with
life...don't burden yourself carrying guilt you know you don't have to
carry.
Do your best and God will do the rest.
Chose friends who follow through on their promises.
Or as one philosopher put it "Dream as if you'll live
forever, live as if you'll die today."
