The following happened
over half a century ago but like all such stories it is timeless.
Jim Vaus came out of World War
It a master of electronics.
Within a few years he found himself a rich man in the
pay of racketeers. His wire tapping was sheer genius. One evening he dropped in at
a Billy Graham crusade. A few hours later he was suppose to catch a plane to St.
Louis. When
the sermon had preached and the invitation came for some to come forward for
Christ, a quiet man next to big Jim quietly tapped him on the shoulder. "Will
you go forward with me?", "
Big
Jim whirled on him and snarled "Layoff me, or I I'll knock your head off.
The other man simply replied.,. gently," you can
do anything you like to me, but that won't right things between you and
God."
Something clicked inside of big Jim Vaus at that moment.
His face twisted with emotion as he fought
something inside himself.
Finally
he rose and began walking toward the front. He never caught that plane that night.
Later he found out that two
gunmen met the plane in St. Louis. They had instructions to kill
Have
you ever in the dark of night come to a fork in the road and taken the wrong
road, and some miles down the way you began to have the feeling you had made a
mistake and suddenly a small white marker said route 46 and you meant to be on route 64.
What did you do? Did you continue on or did you go back to the
fork in the road and begin again.
We all mistakes in life, chose
ruts when we think we are choosing roseland ...and
then sometimes...we wake up and go back to a fork in the road or maybe two or
three forks in the road...and get ourselves straightened out.
