Repent ye therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times

of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.”  (Acts 3:19)

There is a disease called religious slothdom and its symptoms are overpowering.

And, yes, the world is filled with this breed of folk who spiritually are totally committed to non-committal.  Like the sloth of the animal kingdom, they sniff at things and that is about as action-packed as their religious journeys ever become.

To the sloth, change is an abomination.  When it isn’t sleeping its usual 20 hours a day, it is speeding over the ground at 250 meters an hour.

That sounds as if it is really going places…until you realize that one meter is equal to a little more than a yard.

And when it is not terribly motivated, which is often, it slows down to 4 or 5 meters an hour.

It is after all a sloth and has a reputation to uphold.  It is dedicated to graceful, fluid immobility and it accomplishes it exceedingly well.

And to this cry of a dedication to nothingness George Mallory who died trying to climb Mt. Everest said, “To refuse (the) adventure (of life) is to run the risk of drying up like a pea in a shell.”

And the antithesis?  Our Jesus who is not a symbol of apathy but of vigorous hope alive and well.

Jesus is not a symbol of apathy.  He is the message of hope.  And we must accept as necessary His re-arrangement of our lives.

A real sloth is brown in the dry season and green in the wet season.  He blends in with his surroundings.  which is the last thing a Christian should want to be, or do - blend in,
