Toscanni told her that she had the finest voice in the century.

She gave a private concert at the White House for the Roosevelt’s and the King and Queen of England..

She received the Bok Award as the person who had done the most for her home town, Philadelphia.

Then there was that Easter Sunday in Washington when she stood beneath the statue of Lincoln and sung for a crowd of 75,000, which included Cabinet members, Supreme Court Justices and most members of Congress.

And then there was the day she was asked by the world famous concert impresario, Sol Hurok, “Which moment was the greatest moment in your life.”

And when she answered, she answered none of the above. She simply said, “The greatest moment of my life was when I went home and told my mother she wouldn’t have to take in washing anymore.”

To achieve the art of appreciation and thanksgiving is to daily paint on the canvas of life one masterpiece after the other. Nor is it just an art…it definitely is a wisdom

I’ve always tried to show my appreciation to God for his gifts by finding often someone I can show appreciation to for the gift of their friendship to me. How? By my giving them the gift of praise.

Appreciation allows us to put muscles on our joy …both in the giving and receiving.

I decided along time ago that the appreciation of my life feeds the encouragements in my soul and gives them wings. And who does not prefer to fly rather than just walk or stumble.

Psalm 100:4
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him."

A quote below from tomorrow's ONE A DAY blog entitled THE POWER OF THE BIG E

“Without enthusiasm no men or women would find or have found an idea or ideal for which they would willingly give their lives. Where there is enthusiasm there is victory. Where there is apathy there is defeat.”

BELOW IS A QUOTE FROM A NEW SERIES on this Wyrick’s Writings site entitled STRETCH YOUR SOUL. It began Thursday jan 27 2011.

“If someone were to ask you, “What is my soul? Your soul?” How would you answer? Oh, you could give the dictionary description, “the immaterial essence of an individual life,” but that’s about as satisfactory an answer as feeding on boiled cardboard or fried cellophane.
So then “What is the soul?”

Well, first and foremost, it is… It is like a great ear as it reacts to all it hears from sources here on earth and from the heaven-sent voice of God.
