Back in the days before electricity, an old, tightfisted farmer was berating his farmhand for carrying a lighted lantern, and wasting kerosene, when he went to call on his best girl. “Why,” he exclaimed, “when I went a-courtin’ I never carried one of them things. I always went in the dark.”

“Yes,” came back the hired-hand’s wry reply, “and look what you got.”

Too often that is our problem. We fumble in the darkness and don’t listen to the Lord’s message, “I am the light of the world.”
